The Announcement

(LUZ' POV)

"-ey lu-, LUZ WAKE UP!"

"WAHHH WHAT DID I MISS"

"Nothing but we gotta go now, the generals about to announce the announcements." my friend Miranda said.

"Hmm odd to say 'announce the announcements don't ya think" I said in a playful manner.

"Oh shut up" she said as she had clearly matched my manner, laughing before we made our way down to the quad.

'I really hope this isn't a mission, I don't think I could bare another one' I thought, seemingly lost in my thoughts as I had not noticed that we were already there.

The sound of the wind howling in the microphone awoke me from my trance.

"Good Afternoon soldiers, I know most of you here are praying its not another mission"

Many soldiers unknowingly nodded their heads in agreement including me.

"Although that is not what we're here for today"

Everyone silently cheered under their breath, no one would dare cheer loudly though, that was the quickest way to get on cleaning duty for a month.

"The school 'Hexside' as you may know has provided you with the luxury of meeting new people" the general announced.

Everyone's ears perked up on that thought.

'Meeting new people but how? We're barely getting by as is, I mean we've resorted to eating our horses'

"Not only will they help the funding of our war, their students will be pen pals with you, writing to you to lift your spirits"

Some people were excited, others not as much but I was in the middle, not really sure how I felt about it. I mean on one hand I'm meeting new people but on the other I'm really awkward, like REALLY awkward, so what am I even gonna write?

I pushed invading thoughts away knowing we wouldn't be eating our horses anymore ..hopefully. But one thought still remained.

Who's it gonna be?

(Amity's POV)

I walked out of my last class for the day, trying to get past my stupid classmates who were rushing out the door all at once.

Seriously there is basically no way to get out of this school without people causing a riot, though it definitely doesn't last long with the new detention guards.

My afternoon was going fine so far.

No twins, no after school activities, and most importantly, no paren-"

I let out an audible groan as I had just heard my scroll ring loud and clear.

Although the relaxing tune it held, listening to it made me more agitated by the second.

I read the name on the scroll, and it read 'Mother'. I wouldn't dare name her witch or something like that although I want to, who knows what would happen if she got a hold of my phone and went through my contacts.

After some consideration I figured to pick up.

"AMITY BLIGHT! WHAT ARE YOU DOING OUT AT THIS HOUR!" Odalia screamed.

I winced at her deafening yell.

'Wait, what's the time anyway?' I checked my scroll ' oh my god, it's literally only 2 hours since school ended... WAIT 2 HOURS!'

"Mother, I'm sooo sorry! I didn't realise how late it got! I beg for your forgiveness!"

"Sorry is not gonna cut it, you were out too late. What were you even doing! You're falling behind on your studies today!" Odalias stern voice told.

"I know Mother, but as soon as I'm home I promis-"

"No buts, get home before 5:30 and I will let this slide." Odalia oddly said.

"Thank you Mother, I take this proposition filled with gratitude." I spoke, urgency in my voice as I was already hurrying home.

"This is not to be mistaken for, you will attend your studies right as you get home but not without a stern talking to from your Father and I." She remarked anger laced in her voice.

Beeeeepppp!

That was the only other thing heard from the line after that.
