When my brothers and I arrive home, we learn that my mom wasn't affected by Reverb's mind-control and was home the entire time. She first hugs my crying younger brothers, then me, then Jakob and Jaxon.
Jaxon pushes her away. "I'm fine," he mumbles.
My mom wipes at her running mascara, sobbing. "I got off work early, and I just... I had no clue if you all were okay. It was awful."
"Mommy, we were so scared," Ian sniffles, hugging her again.
"Everyone around us walked right into the river, but we stayed—"
"Then we had to go find Ladybug and Chat Noir—"
The triplets start talking over each other, detailing the story of our afternoon to my mom. I listen as they quickly turn from scared to excited, and they make their experience sound more like an adventure than a nightmare.
Jakob and Jaxon, who are both sopping wet and dripping water all over the kitchen, each claim a bathroom and head inside to change. I'm left with nothing to do, so I head to my room.
Once inside, I flop down onto my bed, trying to force down the surge of emotions that's been threatening to overwhelm me ever since I left the riverbank.
Ladybug and Chat Noir beat me.
Ladybug took my Miraculous.
I hurt Antoine.
I hurt everyone.
And there's nothing I can do about any of it.
My Miraculous was supposed to be the first step in my plan to achieving happiness, and now that it's gone, I'm back to square one. I can't take over Ladybug's team, I can't reveal my identity...
Looks like it's back to being invisible.
