"Beeeeeep." The dumb car honks at me as I cross the road. I'm not even Jay-Walking and the sign says it's time for pedestrians to cross. Annoying drivers.
Only two more blocks, I tell myself. I walk home every day from school because there is no bus that goes to where I live, Oakwood Estates. It's kind of isolated; the closest grocery store is five blocks away and Mom won't let me drive the car to school.
"I'm home!" I yell as I walk up the stairs to our mansion.
"ALLY!" My siblings Jake and Sierra come running toward me and hug me very tight.
"I'm learning how to write," Jake informs me.
"Me too," says Sierra. They are twins in Kindergarten.
"That's great!" I say to them. "Where's Adam?" Adam is my eleven-year-old brother obsessed with video games.
"He's upstairs trying to finish level 150 in Call of Duty," says Sierra. Oh my god, does he do ANYTHING else?
"Oh ok," I say as I walk into our house and greet my mom. "Hey, I'm home."
"How was school?" she yells from the kitchen. Mmm. Something smells good.
"Good, but we had a pop quiz and I completely blanked out until Mrs. Anderson said we had five minutes left. Then I remembered; how convenient."
"Well how did you do?"
"We got them back at the end of the day. Somehow I got an A. I filled out ten pretty hard questions in five minutes."
"Well you are an A student," says Mom. She supports me like no one else.
"Thanks but I don't know because we also got back our History papers..."
"What did you get?"
"C+," I respond truthfully.
"What happened?"
"I don't know. I don't even remember when we took the test."
"Oh I'm sorry honey," she says to me in her super supportive voice. "I cooked my famous chicken soup. Maybe that'll cheer you up."
"Thanks Mom," I reply.
LATER
It's 10:30, so I lay down and try to get a good night's sleep. I fall asleep immediately, my last thought of a single red rose dropping into a pile of a thousand more.
FRIDAY
I wake up at 6:24 a.m., a reasonable time. School starts at 8, so I have time to get ready. I walk down to the kitchen to see Dad in his suit hurriedly eating a bowl of Cocoa Puffs.
"Hey Dad."
"Hey Pumpkin."
"How come you're still here?" I ask.
"I'm running late for work. Gotta go!"
"Okay, bye Dad!"
"Bye Alice," he says and then pulls me into an uncomfortably tight embrace. When he lets go, he runs out the door and hops into the car. I watch him leave.
SCHOOL
School today is very boring. Somehow, I manage to make it through two subjects and then we finally get break.
"Did you hear about Dan and his new girlfriend?" my friend Alissa asks me.
"Um no," I answer.
"Well anyway, two days after we broke up he just jumped on her like 'hey wanna be my girlfriend?' And now they're together."
"Are you mad?"
"Actually no. I don't really care," she replies.
Ring! Ring! Ring! There goes the bell. Break is over.
AFTER SCHOOL
At home I make dinner and watch Pretty Little Liars. I love that show. Then after five episodes I turn off the T.V. and fall asleep.
