Ace
I had a feeling. And I was right.
I saw her dancing in that crowded room, she looked so happy, too happy. And then she looked tired all of a sudden.
Now I'm here, holding her head up and hair away from her face while she throws up.
"I feel like shit," Selene says under her breath as she tries to sit up straight.
"Someone drugged you," I tell her. "It's better if you throw up. You done?"
She swallows visibly. "I don't know..."
I sigh. "Come here." I make her kneel in front of the toilet again. "Open your mouth."
She gives me a quick glare because-yeah-that sounded weird. But she does as she's told and I put two fingers in her mouth. She vomits as soon as they touch her throat.
I have to look away for a moment. It's disgusting, but I've done this before. It's nothing new for me.
"Fuck my life," she curses, breathing hard. "I think I'm done for now," she tells me. She wipes her lips with the back of her hand. "What?" she asks me, because I'm looking at her with a disgusted face.
"You just used you hand to..." I shake my head. "Whatever, you're high."
"I want to go home," she says and gets up, going to lean against the wall. "My feet hurt."
I look at her face, my arms crossed over my chest. She has some freckles on her nose and cheeks, and the little mascara she had put on is smeared under her eyes.
I avert my eyes when I realize I'm staring too hard at her. "Come on, I'll drive you home."
She widens her eyes, her pupils dilated. "No, Ace, you don't have to, I-"
"Take off your heels and let's go, please," I cut her off.
She frowns. "My heels?" She looks around the bathroom. "Ohhh, I see rainbows!"
"God, save me," I whisper to myself.
"Hey! What are you- Put me down!" she yells and kicks her legs.
Someone bangs at the door. "I need to fucking pee! You can go fuck somewhere else, you idiots!"
I exit the bathroom with Selene lifted in my arms. She's gone silent.
"You banged her? Good job, man," Chris tells me when he walks towards me.
I shake my head. "I didn't. She's high, someone drugged her, I don't know who."
"Oh, that sucks."
"Yeah, see you around," I tell him.
I descend the stairs and get to the coat hanger. "Sel, which one's yours?"
"Mhm?" I repeat the question and she points it out for me.
We get to my car and I manage to put her on the passenger seat. I sit on the driver seat and start the car to get it warm.
"Where are you staying at?" I ask, but when I look at her she's fast asleep. "Shit."
I pull over and grab my phone. I should have Michael DeAngelis' phone number. Yes, I have it. I tap on 'call' and it rings. This is so embarrassing but it's the only thing I can do.
"Michael DeAngelis here, please leave a message."
Fuck. I don't have Selene's sister number.
I have no idea where she could be staying at.
Her phone buzzes from her purse. I'm so stupid. I grab it and see a text message from her sister.
Ariana: Sally, when are you coming back?
I can't answer the message for her, but I can look through the chat for the name of the hotel they're staying at.
I shouldn't look through her conversations with her sister but it's worse if I bring her home with me.
Found it.
I immediately restart the car and get on the road again.
We arrive in a matter of minutes.
"Sel, please wake up. We are here," I say softly, trying not to scare her by shaking her. Of course, whispering does not work.
I get out of the car and get to the passenger side. I open the door and, as I try to gently lift Selene in my arms, her eyes flutter.
"Ace?" she murmurs.
"Yes," I say. "I'm taking you to your room."
She stares into my blue eyes for a moment and then closes them again.
"Can I look into your purse for the room key?" I ask her, since she's partially awake.
She just nods her head weakly and puts an arm around my shoulders.
We reach her room and I make her lay on the bed. But she sits up.
"What's wrong?" I frown and go sit beside her.
She scoots a little further away from me. "I...uh, I need to pee."
That almost makes me chuckle. Almost. "Then go, I can't come with you while you pee."
She puts a lock of her hair behind her ear and shakes her head. "Yeah, of course not." She's blushing. Her nose and her cheeks become rosier.
She gets up and stumbles a little. I decide it's better if I guide her to the bathroom.
When I hear coughing, I burst into the bathroom and see she's throwing up again. Oh dear God.
"When will it stop?" Selene says with cracked voice.
As I hold her hair back, I give her a light massage on the shoulder with my other hand to calm her down.
When she's done-at least for now-her eyes are bloodshot red and tears fall down her cheeks. I instinctively wipe them away with my thumbs and she looks at me with those big brown eyes. She doesn't trust me to touch her yet.
"Thank you for your help, Ace," she tells me once she's changed in comfier clothes and is under the covers, her eyes sleepy. "You can go now. I have my sister and her boyfriend here with me, don't worry about me."
I give her a simple nod and start to walk away. "Goodnight, see you on Monday."
"Bye."
