Everyone puzzled over this one. What to do?
He murdered her in cold blood. His sister. There is not a shadow of a doubt that Ellie did nothing wrong, and if she had? What could possibly excuse such brutality, such wickedness? It was not heat of the moment, it can't have been.
Perhaps he was just ill, a victim of his own mind. A victim of his evilness.
There had been no trauma for him, as far as the police could see. No symptoms that matched any psychopath's. Not a trait that lined up with one of a murderer's.
But a murderer he was.
Why can't people just accept it? Some people are born evil. But no, torrents of excuses had to come crashing in, outrage, cohesion, sympathy - you name it. Or was it just a staffroom's conversation, a mother's gossip?
I'd call Jonny a cold-blooded killer. Yet he just lingers, counting the days away.
But what else could the police possibly do?
He was only 8, after all.
