"What do you wish for?"
"What do you mean?" a delicate voice replied, his hazel orbs following where the sound was coming from but to no avail, as the boy's vision was completely covered with utter darkness. He didn't have the foggiest idea where he was or what led to this event; however, all he could do was pay attention to the monotone voice emitting from various sides of the room.
Then suddenly a deep chuckle was heard from his left. He quickly glanced to his side and was met with intimidating charcoal-colored eyes emerging from the dark. The boy's breathing hitched as their eyes locked.
"You know what I mean, Phoenix Mccoy. . . What do you crave more than anything in this entire world? What keeps you up at night, wishing it would come true?"
The boy still didn't know what he was talking about nor did he know how to respond nor how it knew his name.
Not long after it spoke, the gray eyes disappeared, causing fear to spread throughout Phoenix's core once again. Where was it?
As soon as that thought crossed his mind, he felt cold large fingers caressing the back of his neck before they dug slightly into his skin. He choked out a cry as he tried to pry its grasp from his neck. Its grip on his neck wasn't tight enough to cut off his air supply but it was enough to cause a lingering burning sensation where he touched. It felt revolting.
"It's not that hard. So answer me now." It was becoming impatient the longer the boy took to respond, digging his nail slightly further down the boy's neck, as it awaited Phoenix's response.
He finally gained the voice to reply, his words spilling like water, " I want to die so I can no longer be a burden to my father and my friends." He hadn't wanted to respond, let alone to a stranger, but something had forced him to speak as if his voice wasn't his own.
"No. There is something you desire more than death itself. Tell me."
"There is nothing more that I wish for-"
"That's a lie," it muttered, never once loosening its grip on Phoenix's neck. Although the stranger insisted he knew what it was referring to, the young male truly didn't understand what it meant. He wanted to no longer feel like a nuisance and no longer be a burden to his loved ones more than anything.
