Besides cars honking in the distance, the only sounds that could be heard were my feet pounding on the ground as I ran as quickly as I could and the occasional terrifying laugh that escaped the man behind me's mouth. His face was painted white and black, and the two colors created a clown appearance that was quite frightening when the moonlight from above shown down upon it.

My chest burned every time I took air into my lungs, but I couldn't stop because I knew that if I did I would no longer be taking residence on this planet. Tears rapidly fell from my eyes, yet I did not make a single sound because I didn't want to make the guy behind me aware of the fact that there was no way that I could run much further without my body completely giving out on me. I was a goner, I knew that, but there was no way that i was going down without a fight.

I turned down one of the alleyways, and I thought for sure that it would lead in the direction that I needed to go, but I was met with an unfortunate scenario when I found out that the alley was acutally a dead end and there was no way out.

I backed up towards the wall, staring at the shiny metal pipe that the clown was holding in his hand as a weapon.

"It seems like you made a poor choice," The man said in a deep voice as he hit some of the trash on the side of the alley causing me to jump at the sudden action.

I didn't even bother to respond to a single word that escaped the mans lips, rather my eyes focused onto a dark being that seemed to drop in from the shadows not too far away from the clown. I squinted my eyes slightly to try and determine what it was, and my heart pounded faster in my chest when I realized that it was the Batman that everyone had been talking about on the TV. He stepped out of the darkness and began to make his way to the man that was in front of me.

The Batman made a small noise causing the man in front of me to turn around as fast as he possibly could. When he did, he looked up at the man in fear but then tried to hit him with the pole that was in his hand. The Batman quickly grabbed it and ripped it out of the mans hands before throwing it in the other direction. He punched him in the face and clown went sliding on the ground into a bunch of crates that were stacked up in the corner.

I looked into the Batman's eyes with shock clearly present in my demeanor, but then I began walking towards him slowly.

"Thank you so much," I replied looking at the man and studying his features as intently as I could without it making it super obvious.

"No problem." He replied before shooting his grappling hook at the buliding above and lifting himself to the top with ease.

I watched for a moment before I began to run out that alley and in the direction of my apartment. My head was racing, at a million miles per hour, and I couldn't believe anything that was happening. Did the Batman really just save me? Was I almost just murdered? Did I really make it out alive or is this all a dream? How did the Batman's features look so stunning under the light being emitted from the sky above?

I unlocked the door of my apartment and immediately shut and locked the door the moment that I was fully inside. Then, I dropped my purse on the floor and walked over to my couch and plopped won on it, letting out a deep breath as I did so.

I just laid there staring at the wall, trying to collect myself and come to terms with the night that I had just had. But then as I was sitting there, it seemed as if something had ran by the window of my apartment which was odd because the only thing outside my window was a fire escape since I was so high up.

I walked over to the window slowly, grabbing a metal bat that I kept in my aprtment for self defense in case someone broke in.

I looked through the glass first, and I noticed a man dressed in all black perched on the roof of the building across from me. His cape blowing behind him from the small breeze that overtook the city and once again like it previously did, my breath hitched when I noticed that it was him.

Had he followed me home to make sure that I was safe? I don't know, his presence was a mystery to me but I wanted to know more about the man that was underneath that mask.

But then once again, he became one with the darkness and disappeared from my sight.

Part of me was upset about this, but at that point I didn't know that the mystery man who saved me would become a major part of my life in the not so distant future.
