The darkness of the city concealed the recluse of a man as he raced as quickly as he possibly could to the basement that he used as his secret headquarters. I could hear the tires of his motorcycle come to a screeching halt as he violently tried to stop the bike from moving. From his body language, and what I could see from his eyes, it was clear that he was panicked in some sort of form, which immediately heightened my nerves since he rarely ever displayed that sort of emotion.

He took off his mask and I ran over to him, wrapping my arms around him as tightly as I caould, in an attempt to make him feel better. Almost immediately, he reciprocated the gesture, while also adding a gentle kiss to the side of my cheek.

"What's wrong?" I asked looking directly into his ocean blue eyes that were accentuated by the black that surrounded them.

"The news said that you were dead, I couldn't believe it when they said it, so I rushed as quickly as I could back here to find out for myself." He responded huskily, scanning the features of my face as he slightly batted his eyelashes.

"Oh Bruce, I'm fine," I replied slightly smiling at him in an attempt to calm him down at the same time that I internally panicked from knowing that I was apparently supposed to be dead.

"I have to get you out of here," He said walking over to one of the desks and grabbing a black hoody off of it.

"Put this on, and this." He stated before then handing me a motorcycle helmet, to which I did as he said and put all the garments and safety gear on.

He did the same and the moment that we both had everything on, he grabbed my hand and led me over to the black motorcycle that was parked haphazardly in the middle of the basement. Throwing a leg over the vehicle, he got on first but then in a swift motion, he threw me on the back with great ease and care. I wrapped my arms around his waist in a decently tight manner, and couldn't help but feel myself blush as I felt the toned muscles that resided underneath his sweatshirt.

We sped down the street as quickly as humanly possible, and I was confused as to where he was taking me. I didn't bother asking though, because I knew that he would take me wherever he believed was the safest.

Making a sharp turn, he sped down a deserted street and stopped right in front of a building that looked to be quite run down in nature.

He got off the bike and I followed suit, grabbing his hand in mine and walking with him inside this said building. At first I expected it to be completely run down due to the aesthetic of the exterior, but i was shocked when he unlocked the door and revealed a decently decorated space that was for sure kept up and not decaying.

The second that we stepped into this place, he quickly locked the door behind him and put the key in his pocket. I spun around in a circle looking at every inch of this place, before lookig back at Bruce who was still standing by the front door. He stood there in the same spot by the front door completely still with what seemed to be pain looming in his eyes.

"When they said that you were gone, I don't think I have ever felt so disappointed in myself. You are the one person that has ever completely and utterly loved me and I thought that I couldn't even keep you safe. I say that I could protect everyone in the city or at least get pretty close to it, but then I can't even save you." He stated with what seemed to be tears brimming in his eyes.

I walked over to him and brought him to the couch that was in the middle of the living room. I took a seat on it and he stood there for a moment before following suit and sitting down as well. But then, he slowly laid down and rested his head on my lap and looked into my eyes. There were a couple of stray tears that fell from his eyes, and I quickly wiped them away with the pad of my thumb, feeling my heart break a little with every tears that left his eye.

"Bruce, you should not be disappointed in yourself okay?" You have done wonders for this city and without you, they wouldn't even be close to solving any of this Riddler stuff. As much as I love you and as much as I love you protecting me, I understand that you have other priorities as well. If something ever did happen to me, I would never ever blame you for any of it." I told him, pushing a few strands of his hair out of his face and giving him a small smile in an attempt to comfort him.

He just looked up at me, without saying a word, yet at the same time his eyes expressed more than words possibly could. Slowly, he sat back up again, his eyes never leaving mine until they delicately closed and he connected both of our lips together.

When they disconnected, I looked at him through my eyelashes, as a rosy pigment made itself known on my cheeks.

"I love you Y/n." He said softly, taking one of his hands and cupping my face with it.

"I love you too Bruce." I replied smiling before leaning back in.
