Katana

"Wanna be a superhero?" Haley said to me, grinning maniacally.

It made me a little scared. Sometimes I honestly wondered why Isabella put up with her.

I looked at her in shock. "Did you not hear what Mom just said, or do you have a death wish? You clearly have a death wish!"

"You were the one saying you want to do more than just fetch coffee for a stuck-up bratty boss!" She argued.

"Yes, I did say that, though not in those exact words. But one, if I go out as a superhero Mom will know it's me. Two, the DSSE will try and catch me. What happened to staying under the radar."

"do you really think I would have told you about this if I didn't have a plan? I've been planning this for months of course I have a plan. You wanted to help the little guy, and slash or girl, right? So, you will be a vigilante in the shadows and won't get caught in the media's eye. So?" she asked, raising her eyebrows and still giving me that manic grin.

I contemplated it. Her plan was pretty good. "Okay," I conceded, "but I have a question"

"yeah?"

"why don't you do this yourself? You've clearly thought this all out?"

"because katana. I'm not the one who has always wanted to help people. You are. Isn't that the whole reason you wanted to be a reporter? Because you wanted there to still be a few good reporters out there who actually cared about the truth?"

"Yeah, I guess," I said softly, giving her a smile to match her insane one.

Haley squealed, hugged me and said, "I already have your suit."

"It'd better be good," I said following her into my bedroom.

"Hello, have you met me? Okay, wait. I'll be back with your suit. I couldn't give it when mom was here, so I left it in the car." My crazy sister rushed out the door.

I waited for about 5 minutes and she came back holding 3 boxes. She handed me the smallest one first. I opened it up and saw twin daggers and a small badge.

I took out the daggers and weighed them in my hand and then set them down. If you noticed I like knives. I lifted the badge.

"Flip the badge in the air like a coin," Haley said, seeing the look of confusion that I'd shot at her.

I did and it grew into a bigger version of itself.

"Awesome! It's a shield!"

I gasped suddenly. "What? What is it?" Haley asked worriedly.

"I'm going to be like Percy Jackson and his pen!" I gushed.

*Haley (bet you didn't see that coming) *

I just about stopped myself from strangling my sister as she sent me a look of pure childish glee. Why do I put up with her?

*back to Katana*

She then handed me the second biggest box. I opened it and saw black combat boots.

"OMG, I love these!"

Haley just looked at me and smiled knowingly.

She handed the final box. I opened it eagerly and laid everything in that box neatly and in order.

There was a black leather jacket with a hood, a black tank top to wear underneath, black combat trousers made out of soft leather, black fingerless gloves and a black mask that would cover the top half of my face.

Seeing all of this made me realise what we were going to do.

"We are really doing this, aren't we?"

"Yeah, we are," Haley gave me a reassuring smile, "Now go wear your suit."

I ran into my room and tried on the suit. Looking at myself in the mirror I started to contemplate if this was a good idea. Then I thought of someone I hadn't thought of in a long time. Mark. My dead brother. I kept thinking that if there had been someone out there like me protecting the streets then maybe he would still be alive. That filled me with the confidence I needed to do this. I ran out again and saw Haley on a laptop.

"Do you want to know your first crime as a vigilante?"

"You make it sound like I'm the one committing the crime."

"Alright, there's a mugging on west 160th."

I ran to the window and opened it and got ready to jump out when something grabbed my hood and pulled me back. I turned around and saw Haley with an annoyed look on her face.

She opened her hand and showed me a comm.

"How am I supposed to keep in contact with you and let you know there's danger if you don't have this?"

I smiled sheepishly, took the comm and put it in my ear.

"Oops."

Then I jumped out the window and started to run there.

"Be careful, you big dummy!" Haley yelled after me.
