Ryan's POV

There are some moments in your life when you feel completely happy, when you know to the core of your heart that you feel happy. These moments are always rare and even if they don't last and even if you know someday they will become a memory that will burn you. You still want to accept them as they are; you still want to live them to the fullest because those moments are worth all the trouble.

Falisha Ibrahim was that moment for me. All my life I had never encountered someone with her innocence. I had never been this way, not even as a child.

In my world, it's all about surviving and to survive you have to be clever as a fox and fast as a hound. Innocence was an expensive trait that no one can afford.

The reason I got attracted to her that fast might be because I had never seen someone like her. She was rare and it was in my nature to chase anything that is rare and beautiful. I had been doing this my whole life.

The thought scared me and saddened me. I couldn't do this to her, She didn't deserve this.

I couldn't help but hold her hand though.

And She let me.

I couldn't remember the last time I had this much fun.

I had always believed that pure emotions don't exist anymore. Like pure joy, pure fun, pure happiness. But that girl proved me wrong single handedly. At that moment I was pure happy, I felt pure joy, I was having pure fun.

But as they say 'You can never be perfectly happy unless you are missing a few chunks of reality.'  And I was ignoring the biggest chunk. I was not the person she thought I was. I was not the person I wanted to be at that moment. No matter how hard I force myself to believe that this meeting was just a casual coincidence and that it wouldn't matter tomorrow or the next day, I couldn't.

Because I knew better.

It wasn't like I didn't like what I did. Every job was a challenge and I loved the thrill but that day with her, I wanted to be normal, a normal man who would court her properly, who would be able to be with her and feel every pure emotion she offers for more than a day.

"They are going to show the fireworks later tonight." Falisha spoke, breaking our comfortable silence, "We have the best fireworks of all Chicago." Her voice lacing with proud, she paused for a moment and then asked meekly, "would you stay by then?"

I had to go meet Sara. She was an old ally. We had worked together a couple of times before and we were supposed to work together for this job. She would be staying on a hotel but I was supposed to meet her on the place I had rented until our stay here because we needed to discuss the plan and proofread everything. She would be arriving today in an hour. I couldn't stay.

"I definitely would." I smiled up at her.

I could see she was pleased to hear that because she smiled widely and said, "It would be great."

 I nodded.

It really would be.

We were sitting beside the lake watching the sunset together. It was the most calming thing I have experienced in a long while.
