Falisha’s POV

I quietly unlocked the front gate and stepped inside the premises of “Ibrahim’s Mansion”, talk about dramatic. Trauns was full of dramatic houses and big names, but my house beats everyother.

As I closed the gate behind me, Snowy, our cat lazily entangled my leg with her torso, I smiled down at her. She was the laziest and most spoiled cat one would ever see, but she was mine. She was the only one I could freely talk to besides Mustafa; she would actually listen and meow whenever she thinks she needs to add something. She was my companion whenever I needed one.

I sat down and patted her furs. Harris gave her to me before going to college. I know Snowy is a very cliché name, but when Harris brought her home; it was snowing, and she was wrapped in this little pink blanket, curled in a ball, she looked like a giant ball of snow. I looked at her cried with joy, “It’s so Snowy!” and that’s how we began to call her Snowy.

My dad hadn’t liked the idea of cats in the house and was not particularly happy about it. He demanded that we throw it in some ‘trash can’, that day was the first time I didn’t obey his orders as soon as he made it, in fact I stood my ground and insisted that Snowy stays with us. Harris had my back and finally once in our lifetime, we had our way. It was the best feeling and that white little fellow was my reward.

I collected Snowy in my arms and walked towards the inside of ‘Ibrahim’s Mention’, I had to be really quiet, didn’t want to wake father up.

It’s not like he would say something, if he saw me. It’s just been this way ever since I remember; I and Harris would always be quiet whenever he was home. If we want to talk in his presence, we would in hushed voices and if he addressed us, we would always keep our heads down and voices low, we on the other hand rarely spoke to him even that if there was something important that need to be discussed; we were never comfortable with it though.

I tiptoed in front of his room and slowly made my way towards the stairways, even Snowy didn’t make any noise.

“Falisha” A very familiar voice called.

shit.

“Father” I said and turned to face him, “You are up early.”

“Yeah I needed to finish some important reading.”

Oh, yeah. There was always some important reading or some paperwork to be done. He would stay awake till late at night and would wake up early. He was draining himself. He was not as young as he used to be. He needed to take his health more seriously.

“You shouldn’t work this hard sir,” I said, “Your doctor would be very upset if he found out about your sleeping patterns” Snowy meow at that.

My father eyed the cat like it was some lowly object, and looked at me, “A man has to do what he has to do Falisha” he waved, “besides I am healthy as a horse.”

“Your reports don’t say so” I muttered.

“As long as I feel healthy, reports are just a piece of trash”
