"Ok rule number one, no sarcasm and side comment rule number two, don't be a know it all" Chris says to me and I groan and nod before we proceed to the vet's door but what he doesn't know is the my fingers were crossed.
"I'm starting to think I need to buy a more prominent "closed" sign." Deaton says as we lineup in front of him with Xander by my side.
"Hello, Alan. It's been a while. The last I heard, you had retired." The devil- oops I meant Gerard says.
"Last I heard you followed a code of conduct." Deaton claps back
"If you hadn't noticed, this body is one of ours." Chris says frustrated.
"I did, I also noticed the gunpowder residue on his finger tips. So don't assume I will be swayed by your philosophy just 'cause I'll answer a few questions." Deaton says, making me roll my eyes.
"He was only 24." Chris says stunned.
"Killers come in all ages." Deaton says while looking straight at me making me roll my eyes yet again.
"You got a problem with me Mr.I'm just a vet" I ask and he shakes his head.
"All ages, sizes, shapes. It's the last one that concerns us." Gerard says nonchalantly.
"How about you tell us what you found?" Xander says with a sigh.
To be honest I'm quite shocked to see the dead corps of Bennett...i mean me and Xander were literally talking to the guy a day ago.
"See this cut? Precise. Almost surgical. This isn't the wound that killed him. This had a more interesting purpose." Deaton says but I could tell he was holding back a huge detail, and maybe he already knew what the creature was.
"Relating to the spine." I say observing the corps
"That's right. Whatever made this cut, it's laced with a paralytic toxin, potent enough to disable all motor functions. These are the cause of death. Notice the patterns on each side." Deaton says
"Five for each finger." Chris proposed
"Each claw." Gerard corrects
"As you can see, it dug in, slashed upward" Deaton says but I notice something very weird.
"Can I?" I ask and he nods, out of the corner of my eyes I can see Gerard watching my every move.
"Sure, you're an expert yourself" Deaton says passing me a pair a gloves.
I put them on and start to examine the corps
"Ok see, look at his neck, it's where the venom took action from which made the fusion process at least 5x slower than normal, and by how tense his muscles are you can tell he was putting up a fight making his death very painful"
"Right so I'm guessing the method of his death was just a convenience?" Deaton asks making me nod
"Yes, because if the creature had its way, it would have poisoned him from the back of the neck which relates to the spine so the fusion could go faster" i say
