Adrien POV

The following day the list came out, I told father about it, to which I wasn't surprised he was bad-mouthing the Mayor, but he was also upset as anyone who was on the list can be my partner in no time.

I was surprised to know he began talking in hopes of becoming paired with Marinette. I sometimes wonder if her only wants her to marry me because of her awesome designs, or he genuinely likes her, which seems to be the case.

It's been a little bit since Elise arrived to Paris, and soon, we'll all have to be making an appearance throughout Paris, revealing those who were chosen.

The mayor made good on his promise, sending the emails. My father, Natalie, and I have looked it over many times, and at this point, I think Natalie has it mesmerized because sometimes I catch staring at me with pity.

What sucks about all of this is that despite being forced into a marriage for city population, everyone who's an obligated participant has to pay out of their own pockets for funds.

Sure, I'm rich. My father is a renowned fashion designer. I'm a model. I do perfume ads, I travel when needed for modeling, and I volunteer, but seriously, I or we, my future spouse and I have to pay on our own for something we didn't want in the first place?

This is all the Mayor's doing, why does he get to call the shots for arranged marriages but not bother to see the trouble of us paying for anything at all? His daughter, Chloe is also on the list, she's also a participant, is he going to pay for her funds? Who's he going to pai--...

oh man, I mentally scold myself for even getting the thought of it.

Chloe and Adrien. Adrien and Chloe. Headlining: Paris's Richest and Wealthiest Teens Betrothed To One Another Due To "The Marriage Law"

Or, better yet...

Headlining: Paris's Richest and Wealthiest Teens Betrothed To Another Due To "The Marriage Law", Will The Two Teens Find Their Way To One Another And Disobey The Law? Or Will They Sacrifice Themselves With Their Paired Soon-To-Be Spouse?

Ugh, How did I get myself into this mess? "Adrien, are you listening? I've been trying to talk to you, yet you're just staring at those useless newspapers," I suddenly snap out of my trance and face my father.

"Yes, sorry father, I just, the date is nearing and I... I don't want to do this anymore than you want me to go through with this. And not that I mean any disrespect to you father, but you keep bringing up Marinette, especially, with the marriage law, why? I mean like, why Marinette in particular?" I ask him.

He scowls at me, "would you rather become betrothed to Ms. Bourgeois, or preferably, Ms. Rossi? I highly doubt that you would. And Ms. Tsurugi? Yes, I may be in business partnerships with their parents, excluding Ms. Rossi, although, Kagami's mother is quite strict, and she knows every single move that is going to happen within the next 18 moves without even mentioning anything, have you seen that blind woman's reflexes, she may be blind, but she is very wise, and knows of what she speaks and thinks very clearly,"

It was a shock to me because I rarely ever heard him mention any of my friends names, let alone their first name, I think the only one whom I ever heard in a first name bases is none other than Marinette herself. Sometimes, I didn't even think he knew anyone's first name aside from Marinette.

"As for Chloe, her father is the Mayor of Paris, as her mother is Style Queen, with a half-sister from New York, Zoe, isn't it?" I nod, "I'm quite aware of all the antics she displays, which has lead to most if not all akumatizations, Adrien, yes, I know her behavior is quite unacceptable as a father who only wants the best for his son, and for his son to honor his mother, but she is your first friend, and that is something, or someone I cannot take away from you," I nod accordingly and appropriately in understanding.
