"Is this yours?" I asked as I stopped in my tracks to run my hands on the smooth, black grand piano's surface.
"It was originally bought by my great, great grandfather, and was passed down generation to generation, and now, it's in my possession"
"Oh, I see, well, do you play?" I continued to ask while admiring the piano. It had a certain charisma around it.
"Yeah, it's one of my hobbies and past time"
"You didn't tell me before" I finally tore off my eyes from the piano and peeked at him from under my lashes. I wanted to ask a favor.
"Rio?"
"Yes?"
"Can you please play a song for me?" I asked in a sweet voice. He seemed to zone off for a bit then regained his senses.
"I, um, I'm not that good" He stammered shyly and rubbed his hands on the back of his neck, his usual posture when tensed.
"That's okay, please? Just one song?" I said while using all the power my eyes have on him and pouted like a baby who lost her teddy.
"Hey Trisha, that's not fair, you know I can't resist when you does that" He said in a whiney voice, sighed, and slid on the piano bench. He left a space for me and patted it as an invitation to sit beside him. I beamed and settled myself on our shared seat.
He placed his fingers on the ivory keys gently, as if processing a song he would play. He pondered for a while then looked at me. It seems like he was searching for an answer and found it on my face. He smiled tenderly and faced the keys. He closed his eyes and let his soul flow through his hands. Then, the most beautiful melody burst and filled the entire room.
I know this song and it's one of those who every girl wishes to be played or sang to them. Music filled with love, adoration, and complete devotion. I too, closed my eyes to feel more intimately the stunning tune hugging me, voiding myself from the outside world and lifting me high above the clouds. I had lost myself in the music even before the intro had ended.
To daze me even more, his superb voice collided and flowed flawlessly with the soft keys of the song. He sang Stephen Speaks' lovely lyrics with an enthralling voice that touches the deepest part of your soul.
It's her hair and her eyes today
That just simply take me away
And the feeling that I'm falling further in love
Makes me shiver but in a good wayI opened my eyes slowly and gazed up at him, expecting to see him in deep concentration, but my eyes only met his brown orbs that dig my being. They were looking at me affectionately, as if a sheet music was planted on my face where he could see the notes, but no, his fingers moved professionally, like it was programmed to be played.
All the times I have sat and stared
As she thoughtfully thumbs through her hair
And she purses her lips, bats her eyes and she plays,
With me sitting there slack-jawed and nothing to sayHis lips lifted at the corners, making a permanent smile though he is singing. I think I would be blind after this, seeing that bright beam etched on his Angel's face.
'Cause I love her with all that i am
And my voice shakes along with my hands
Cause she's all that I see and she's all that I need
And I'm out of my league once againAs he sang those words, I can't help but to love him more and be touched by its meaning, our gapes never breaking.
It's a masterful melody when she calls out my name to me
As the world spins around her she laughs,
Rolls her eyes and I feel like I'm falling
But it's no surprise
'Cause I love her with all that I am
And my voice shakes along with my hands
'Cause it's frightening to be swimming in this strange sea
But I'd rather be here than on land
Yes she's all that I see and she's all that I need
And I'm out of my league once again. This is exactly what I feel, how I cherish him. He's the one who is out of my league. A plain jane like me doesn't deserve someone molded to perfection like him. A prince wasn't meant to be paired to a commoner, much like an angel doesn't belong to a mere human like me.
Its her hair and her eyes today
That just simply take me away
And the feeling that im falling further in love makes me shiver, but in a good way
All the times I have sat and stared
As she thoughtfully thumbs through her hair
As he purses her lips, bats her eyes
And she plays with me sitting there slack-jawed and nothing to sayThe notes softened and his alluring voice alleviated to a whisper
'Cause I love her with all that I am
And my voice shakes along with my hands
'Cause it's frightening to be swimming in this strange sea
But I'd rather be here than on land
Yes she's all that I see and she's all that I need
And im out of my league once againHe stopped singing but his fingers still danced up to the instrumental end part which was my favorite. My eyes are still locked with his until he pressed the last note. He reached up and tucked a stray hair behind my ear. This is the perfect chance. Say those three words Trisha!
I tried to open my frozen mouth but all that came out was a gasp. Stupid mouth of mine, ugh. It was still paralyzed and was zipped to silence because of what happened. His body became rigid, and he looked nervous. He dropped his hands to his side hung his head low.
"You didn't like it, I told you I'm not good" He mumbled sadly. How could he say that! Even magnificent was an understatement! I forced my mouth to move and held his face between my hands. I tried to look into his deep eyes but he keeps on looking away, ashamed.
"Are you serious? I bet that even Stephen Speaks couldn't pull off a performance like that. You were so great! No, marvelous! I couldn't even find the right words to describe it since no word in the dictionary holds the right description and feeling of what you did. It was way beyond perfect, and that was an understatement" I explained soulfully.
He finally turned his head to look directly at me, smiling warmly.
"Thank you Trisha, you don't know howmuch that means to me" He took my hands off his face and kissed each of myfingers. My heart bloats for this man. Before I could even open my mouth toconfess my irrevocable love for him, he stood up, still holding one of myhands, and opened the door leading back to the living room with me trailingawkwardly behind.
