Dominic

The moment that Anya left their office, Dominic took the stairs and walked towards his favorite cafe, which also served a small selection of delicious cakes. He was still under the excitement of the interview so he didn't need the extra sugar rush, but he craved one nonetheless. He bought a cinnamon roll and a largest cup of coffee to go. Then he proceeded back to his office, set a bag containing an extra cinnamon roll on Michelle's desk and made a mental note to give her a raise. If it weren't for her, he would have probably disregard Anya's application altogether.

"I didn't ask you for anything, Dominic." She yelled after him.

"Exactly!" He yelled back, chuckling. He finally slumped in his chair and took a deep breath. Soon it will be time to meet the other candidates, who were officially no longer in the game. He hated lying to them, but he also wasn't expecting for Anya to make such an impact on him. He had decided to simply transfer their resumes to the other contacts in the publishing industry, as a way to atone for their time, although he knew he wasn't obliged to do that. He looked at his wrist watch and nodded when it showed that he had at least ten minutes before the next interview. He called Michelle and told her to send all the candidates into his office immediately, without waiting. He wanted to be over and done with it. He let his mind wander until his eyes fell onto Anya's motivational letter. He read it before she walked in, but he wanted to read it again. And again. And again. It read:

To whom it may concern,

I am hereby applying for a position in Your company which was published last week. I admit that I am probably at a disadvantage due to my lack of working experience, but what I lack in actual work, I try to improve by setting myself with a series of fabricated tasks, to keep my skills sharp. I have attached my projects for You to see. As far as my personality goes, I am a very hardworking, loyal and discreet person. I hope that You will give me a chance and put my skills to the test.

Sincerely,

Anya McLellan.

He didn't even have to look at her projects, to know that he wanted to hire her. He also believed every word that she wrote, and it was once again confirmed when she stood in front of him in all her shyness and beauty. He removed her letter from the rest of the papers, folded it once and put it in the inside pocket of his suit, which was placed on a hanger. He rarely had the need to take off his suit, but suddenly the whole atmosphere was hot, and there was still a long day ahead of him. It all passed by in a haze. He was aware of everything he was doing, because he was too aware that he mustn't lose the control over the situation, but his mind and emotional connection to others were somewhere out of his reach. He was almost ecstatic when Michelle let him know that the last candidate pulled out of the further process at the last minute, which made it one less person to deal with. He was more than ready for a hot shower and an early night the moment that his workday was over. However, when he parked his car in the garage, he noticed that Kayla's car was in its designated parking space. He did not like that at all, even though in any other situation, and on any other day, he would have probably been thrilled. Tonight he just wanted peace and to be with his own thoughts. When he walked through to the living room, Kayla welcomed him by sitting in a short silky robe, and not much else. He gritted his teeth.

"You're home early." He stated.

"Not for long. I just wanted to hear how the interviews went."

"Why?" He asked and proceeded to the kitchen to pour himself some brandy. If she was going out later, and if she was acting so suspiciously interested in his affairs, he needed all the help he could get. It just so happened that the help way lying at the bottom of his crystal glass, which Kayla was so against using unless it was for special occasions.
