4- A Night Out

Later that night, as Errol finally sat down in front of the television with a family size bag of chips, he heard a tapping noise outside of the window.

For a second there, most average people would think something along the lines of "What is it?", or they would jump out of their seat at the sudden noise.

Unsurprisingly, Errol was not an average man.

Neither was his assistant, who stood bright eyed and high on god-knows-what outside his window, that was several stories off the ground.

The detective opened the sliding glass door and walked out to greet her on the balcony. "What do you want?"

"Am I unable to see my bestie outside of work hours?" She replied sarcastically, "Oh Mister Clifton, you fill my heart with woe. How am I to recover from such anguish?"

"For the love of God, would you please shut your mouth?" Said Errol.

With a gleam of mischief in her eyes - which may have been caused by some unknown substance- she said "Hold on my dear, I've yet to tell you why I'm visiting at such a late hour!"

Sighing, all Errol could say was "Stop talking all fancy and come inside already."

The two walked back through the sliding glass door and sat on the couch. The apartment was not much to look at, being covered in somewhat important papers and having dirty dishes stacked high in the sink. The pair sat in silence while making direct eye contact to further the mood.

Breaking the silence between them, Errol finally asked "So why did you come over?"

Mina replied simply "Because I was bored."

This was not an uncommon event for the two, so much to the fact that they each had their own semi-permanent bedroom set up in each other's houses. Errol lived in a multi-story apartment building -that wasn't quite tall enough to be a skyscraper- smack in the middle of the city, while Mina shared a large double story house with her three friends a little further out in the suburbs surrounding.

Mina had a quite place to sleep in Errol's house, and Errol got a mattress on the floor in Mina's.

Now that Errol had to share his chips, he though that he should at least go and find some pillows to build a castle out of in the living room. This brought a slight smile to his face as he stood up from the couch a second time. Perhaps he should clean the floor of Mina's room while he was at it.

Now, it was the middle of the night, but that alone wouldn't stop Mina in her pursuit for something exiting. Anything would do, as long as it could hold her interest.

Finishing the bag of chips, she looked to Errol as he was walking towards 'her' room with a vacuum cleaner and drawled "Errrooool, I'm bored."

These nighttime visits were usually for this reason only, so the second that she had appeared on the balcony that night, Errol had begun thinking up ways to keep his assistant entertained for the time while also being able to at appear that he had a good night's sleep for work tomorrow.

They often drove around looking for trouble on these nights, not because they were detectives, but because they were a little bit sketchy themselves.

The pair often went undercover, posing as above-average felons. They would don wigs and expensive looking suits or dresses. Contact lenses and gloves were a must for not being discovered, as were more seemingly small details that could easily get you caught. With all of this, a good watch and  some pricey-looking jewelry would finish off the look.

Neither Errol nor Mina were paid enough to afford all of this, so they got most of those from the charity shop that was a few blocks away.

A little closer to the center of Lewing was a rather fancy looking casino. Many of the rich and famous would gamble away heir lives at this place, but under the black light it became a different sort of casino.
