Forensic anthropology student Alice Wheeler had thought she'd seen it all. From her studies under Dr. Temperance Brennan at the Jeffersonian Institute, she'd encountered the skeletal remains of burn victims, the drowned, warriors from ancient civilizations, and World War casualties. However, the sight of rotting flesh could not prepare her for the body that arrived early that morning.
From the decomposition stage to the glass fragments found in the eye sockets of the victim, this body was an exact match to the fictional writings of her twin brother Aiden. When she's pulled from the case and put under special FBI surveillance, she wonders if her brother is capable of such things. Were his writings actual documentations of a brutal killing spree, or was this the doing of a fanatical serial killer?
Investigating the twins, the BAU reveals troubling secrets about their past. As more and more bodies keep turning up, Alice can't help but worry that she's next.
