feeling like a bit of a rebel and posting a "the mysterious house" oneshot in my walten files oneshots book (heavily inspired by "November 1st" which is a GREAT tmh fanfic y'all should read)
i would say this is a pumpkin rabbit x reader but it sorta isn't...
tw: faint allusion to child death, blood-
A knock.
You heard the old floorboards creak as your sister leaned forward expectantly. It was Halloween, and you were babysitting as your mother was "too busy" to. In reality, she was just too intoxicated to take care of someone, much less a spoiled five year old.
Eventually, the door opened with a screech, and unnatural yellow light flooded onto the porch.
A sheep looking figure stood in front of you both, its shadow towering over you. Grey fleece framed its gaunt face, sunken yellow eyes carved into its monotone head. A crimson spiked collar curled around its wiry neck, and its blank look sent shivers down your spine. Two ram horns protruded from somewhere in the grey mass of faux wool.
"Trick or Treat!" Your sister exclaimed, perfectly oblivious to the eerie nature of the house.
"Ah, hello there!" Her– you could pick that up from the feminine ting to her voice –eyes scaled you both. "What might you be?"
The words were jumbled, like she knew them but didn't quite know how to string them together. They had a warm fuzz to them, like the buzz of an old TV. "I'm a witch!" Your sister proudly displayed her black cloak and pointed hat, "And my sibling's a bunny!"
She gestured a gloved hand in your direction and the sheep's slim irises whirred to your costume. It was just you in some overalls with bunny ears mounted on your hair, one droopy and brushing against the top of your forehead. You shifted uncomfortably under her stare. "You both look absolutely darling," Her voice cut off roughly at the end before starting up again. "I'm a witch too."
"Really?" Your sister watched with avid interest as the witch pointed to the purple hat on her head.
"Mhm," she hummed, curling her lips up to reveal two rows of dull yellow teeth. "Anyways, there's plenty of candy inside! Come on in."
You had no choice as your sister had immediately rushed in when the door opened up just a bit wider. Brushing past Witch– you'd chosen to call her that, as you had no other name –you tried not to wince as you felt one of her claws nudge against your back.
On the inside, a tacky floral pattern was attached to the walls and the carpet was a hexagonal mess. Before you could even begin to observe your surroundings further, a bright light flashed in your vision.
A gasp tore from your throat and blood pounded in your ears as you blinked away the black splotches distorting your sight. "What the fu–" you were quickly reminded of your sister's presence by the brief tug on your shorts, "–frick."
"Oh sorry! It's just—" Witch hugged her arms with what you thought was supposed to be a comforting smile, "–We like taking pictures of our guests every year. That way, we never forget them."
Your eyes flicked over to the figure standing beside her. It grasped a camera between its claws, tilted up towards its face as if always poised to take a picture. "That's TVA! Say hi, TVA." Witch's fingers twitched, as if a cue for the... whatever it was to start talking.
"Hello." It heaved through what sounded like a warped voice box. Before you could even comprehend it, the bot had whirled around and disappeared around a corner.
"Uhhh," you glanced down to your sister, who had her face stretched in excitement. You felt the farthest from excited. It was like something was carving out your guts, making you shift uncomfortably from side to side as you tried to wear off the pain. "Can we just get the candy now?"
