A sudden summer storm,
In her presence, I felt the rain,
In her absence, never calm

She was the raging bonfire,
Impulsive, fleeting, strong,
I felt the flames wash over me,
Then suddenly...gone.

Never mine to own,
I watched the waves reclaim each,
Till I was left alone,

Memory yearns for what could not be,
Distance measured in years,
She was a volume of my history,
And I was a footnote in hers.
