Chapter 1: Losing My Life

I'm sitting in my room doing my home work and my mom comes in the room.

"Hey honey we are gonna run into town to get some grocerys and stuff. Need anything?" My mom askes me.

"No I'm good. Is Lindsey going with you guys?" I ask.

"Yes she needs some stuff for a science project. I'll see you later Hun. Love ya. Get your homework done." She says and kisses me on the forehead.

"Love ya bye."

I continue to do my math homework and science homework..plus my essays.

I wake up. I must of fell asleep.. I was in the middle of my last essay for English on "Ebooks or regular books?"

My phone rings and I notice 10 missed calls?!" Who's number is this?

Someone bangs on the door. I wait a few seconds and rub my eyes. Someone bangs on the door again.

I get up and walk to the door. I look through the door peeper thing and see two cops standing there with a lady standing behind them.

I unlock the door and open it. "Hello?" I say.

"Hi miss Miller. We need to talk. Can I come in?" The girl cop says.

I let them in.

"Okay so your parents and young sister Lindsey have passed away..on there way to the grocery store they were driving at a green light and it turned red fast and someone speeded into them." Says the cop.

"Your mom almost lived and so did your sister but your dad wasn't going to make it..glass was in his body and your mom and sister lost a lot of blood. Your mom would of lived but no one had her blood type to donate.." Says the other cop.

By now I'm on the floor crying. I can't believe it..my mother. The one who raised me. My dad, the one who took me to my soccor and softball games. My sister who I told everything too, my best friend.

They're gone.

Is this some kind of joke?!

I lay on the floor crying for at least 10 minutes and the cops are handing me tissues. Until the cop gets me up and tells me that they have to introduce me to someone.

"Lauren, this is Mrs. Natalie Smith. She is going to take custody of you..this is your parents bestfriend..you will be living with her and her family." The boy cop says.

I wipe my tears..what..this is happening so quickly.

"Hello..Lauren." Says Natalie walking over to me and hugging me.

I just stand there in shock.

"Wait. Why is this happening so quickly?!" I ask letting go of the hug.

"Honey." The girl cop says. "Before your mom died she said, 'Tell Lauren I love her, and make sure my bestfriend Natalie Smith from Los Angeles takes custody of her.'"

I almost laugh. "You remembered all of that? Did she really say that?"

"We wrote it down on paper Miss Miller." Said the boy cop.

I look down at my feet. "Thank you Natalie..but I'm 16. I can be on my own..it's not that hard."

Natalie smiles. "Honey, you have to be 18 until I'm aloud to let you go. I'm sorry but your mom said you have to go with me, or you go to an orphanage or adoption center."

The cops nod.

"I'm sorry. This is jut happening so quickly I just woke up from piles of homework to my family dieing!" A tear falls from my eye and hits the floor. Then I realize what's happening. More tears fall and Natalie hugs me.

I guess this is how it's going to be now..isn't it?
