Dominic POV
I felt at home without ever having been farther from home. Maybe that's what they said about the house not being about the place but about the people. Everything was as it was supposed to. That was the feeling I got when I thought about the here and now lying with a Caterina in my arms.
I wanted to go back in time, stop her from leaving. But I knew deep down I didn't blame her, because I would have gone days later. I liked to believe that everything had a reason, that things happened when they had to.
"May I know what you're thinking?" She asks in the silence of the morning. It's not like we're talking for the first time, but we weren't exactly having a conversation at the moment.
"I was thinking about how I wanted to stay here." I say pressing her against me, I feel her smile on my skin.
This is why I had to go back, for my daughters obviously, but also for this. For me, for her, for us. She always knew how to fight, always had a strength that captivated me from the first minute, which is why I thought to ask her to enter my world when I found her. I never thought to find her in it. Now that I knew there was a possibility of having it all, I had more motivation to fight. I had more to lose, but I also had a lot more to gain when it was all over.
"We'll have to go out to eat." she says without taking her head off my chest. "Eventually."
"Now that you mention it, I'm hungry." I say amazed that I didn't notice it before she commented. She laughs silently, shaking us both.
"Sex does that to a person." she says laughing. Maybe she was right. Could I convince her to go eat and go back to bed?! She sighs before wiggling out of my embrace.
"I have to get up. Not just because I'm hungry and thirsty, but also because I have some unfinished business with Connor and I want to take care of things before he leaves for the hospital."
"I would happily take care of Connor for you." I look at her, controlling my disgust at him. Perhaps our definition of take care is not the same. I saw humor in her eyes as she turned and headed for the dressing room. My eyes went down to the lines that were the scars she had along the side of her torso, I had noticed before but now with the dawn light I could see that there were some disguised on top of others.
"It's not like he doesn't know the rules, because he does. That's why he knows when to break them" she speaks in a louder tone as she enters the dressing room. "As of today, his chances are gone. Either he follows the rules or he leaves." She comes back now in lingerie with the clothes she's going to wear. "If he decides to stay and break any rule, no matter how small, it's his head that will roll."
"Olivia and Rosa?" I ask, mesmerized by the movement of her hands pulling on her pants.
"Rosa was married to the mafia, my mother helped her leave her husband when he almost killed her once. So she will undestand. They also know the opportunities he has been wasted." Katherine says putting on a satin blouse that looked like water rippling over her curves.
I was listening to her, I swear I was, but my eyes were mesmerized.
"Another thing, I have a folder for each of the people who work for me or buy from me, allies and enemies. So I'm going to ask Camila to dig deeper on Leila. I hope that doesn't bother you." she says looking at me from under her lashes, leaning over, giving me a view of her cleavage while she puts on her socks.
I shrug my shoulders and she smiles straightening up. My gaze travels over her curves.
"So shouldn't you have found me?" I ask confused now that my brain can assimilate what she had said.
