Because of the injuries and stress that he had while on the battlefield, he was diagnosed with dementia. No one knows about the illness that he developed because he was suffering alone on the battlefield.
This became his sword to secure victory in the war, to let his madness break loose in the battle.
The only thing that can stop his madness was the Priestess' Divine power.
I stopped in the part where Arsen and the Priestess were stuck in a cave when they were being pursued by the assassins that the Empress had sent.
I think it was 10 chapters before the epilogue...
As for Himeia, she has never appeared in the novel, but she was mentioned as The deceased Duchess.
