I watch in horror as the man pushes her off the cliff. As I heard her scream, I shot my gun hitting the man in the back of the head, his body dropping off the cliff as well. I run over to the side of the cliff, she's still falling. Maybe I have time. I dig the hook into the ground and grabbing the rope attached to it I swing myself off the cliff as well. Halfway down I hear a thud, it's too late. When I touch the ground I immediately start running towards her. Grabbing her I see she is still breathing.
"Kaia, just hold on. I'll get help, please don't leave me." I pleaded with tears running down my face.
"We have an agent down, I need medic immediately." I shouted into the comms.
"Marcy, it's ok. I love you. Please be strong for me." She whimpered using the last of her strength to place her hand on my cheek. I lean down and kiss her passionately, knowing this is the last time I will get to do so.
The shrieking of the alarm wakes me from my nightmare causing me to jolt up panting loudly. Every night I have the same nightmare, and every night it feels just was real as it happened all those years ago.
I turn the alarm off after regaining my composure. I look at the time, 5 am, perfect. Lazily swinging my feet off the bed I walk into the bathroom, brushing my hair and teeth before going into my closet and picking out a workout outfit.Oh, I should wear that new outfit I got last week.
After I get dressed I head towards my favorite place, the park. About 30 minutes of walking later, I made it there. Jogging to the track I spot Sam.
"Hey Sam, how are you today?" I call out running over to him, joining his jog.
"Hey Marcy, I'm doing good, woah, feeling a little scandalous today, are we?" He commented looking at my outfit.
" It's just a little stomach. What, you've never seen a girl's stomach before?" I joked, nudging him with my elbow. He scoffed and rolled his eyes.
"Of course I have, I just didn't expect you to be so toned." He defended, mumbling the last part.
"Oh, so I had a student ask me if the rumor that I used to work with Tony Stark to research Alien tech was true." I added.
"What did you tell them?" Sam asked.
"The truth." I simply stated.
"Which is?" Sam inquired, his eyebrows raised.
"That all the rumors are true. In fact, my and Stark are pretty good friends." I confirmed. "Hey, wanna race?" I asked. Before he could answer I sped off.
" Hey, not fair!" I hear him yell behind me. I laugh as I continue running. Let's just say that I won by a landslide. After about an hour or so I look at my watch.
"Oh, look at the time, I go to go, kids can't teach themselves." I said waving goodbye.
When I got home I took a quick shower and got ready for work. Before leaving I grabbed the locket around my neck and said my favorite prayer.
'God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change. The courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference.' I walked outside and started the long walk to the Columbia University Campus. As I walked I listened to my music while looking around. New York is so beautiful during the Spring. Once I get on campus I look at my watch, 9:10, I have 20 minutes to get some coffee and get to my class. I walk into the teacher's lounge and brew some coffee, while it brews I make some small talk with the other Professors. I finally walked into my class around 9:25.
"Alright class, I know you are all tired and finals are just around the corner. So I decided today we can do a silent study instead of a lesson. How does that sound?" I exclaimed sitting at my desk. The class, glad they didn't have to learn anything today, started studying. I picked up the homework the students turned in this morning and started grading. It wasn't the best job in the world, it's definitely a downgrade from my last, but I enjoyed it. After all my classes were down I walked home. Before entering my apartment, I checked my mailbox, there was only 1 envelope in it. It was matte black and had fancy purple handwriting on it. It read 'To Dr. Marcy Evans From Tony Stark'.
