My senses slowly came back to me as I heard humming and the sounds of birds chirping.
I moved my hands around, keeping my eyes closed.
Was I on grass? I could feel the hot sun on my skin and the cool breeze causing the trees to sing loudly with their leaves.
Wait, trees?
I immediately opened my eyes and lifted my torso forward, taking in the scene. This place was magnificent. The sun was shining, and everything was so bright. Before me stood tall majestic trees circling the large area of grass that I was now sitting on. Beautiful flowers were sprinkled evenly across the green blanket. I had never seen grass so green in my life, the dark emerald color heightened my fascination.
I playfully wiggled my fingers in the grass, completely mesmerized by the new setting that encompassed me. I giggled as my entire being was flooded with emotions that I could not process fast enough.
The beautiful and familiar humming continued, and suddenly I was snapped out of my trance. I turned my head towards the delightful sound and was greeted by a pair of striking blue eyes. Without looking away I watched as 'blue eyes' tickled my skin with a blade of the long grass, across my cheek, down to my neck, onto my stomach, to my legs and to my nose, making me laugh.
"You're so beautiful Aurora." He said to me.
I smiled.
I laid back down and moved my hand to his dirty blonde hair, pulling him down for a kiss.
"Leo?"
He muttered a 'yes' as he touched his nose to mine.
"Where are we?" Finally, I had asked the question that had been buried by all the distractions and sudden inexplicable emotions.
He smiled, positioning his head in his palm as he used his elbow for support. Leo brought a flower to his nose, and closed his eyes, as if he were admiring the scent.
"Well darling, if you really want to know."
I raised my back off the soft grass to look around once more. This place didn't look normal, it was too beautiful to be somewhere on earth but then again I'd never been anywhere outside of Kansas, my home. I looked at him with confusion, I didn't remember Leo asking me to go out of the country with him last night. I held my hand to my forehead, this was all very confusing.
"Don't worry baby, you won't remember anything. So don't try too hard." His hands went to my cheek and attempted to soothe me with his gentle touch.
How was he so calm?
Did he know something that I didn't?
"What do you mean?" I asked impatiently.
"You're trying to remember last night, you won't recall how you got here." He said casually.
"Look Leo you're kind of scaring me. This place is beautiful and all but can we go home please?" He chuckled at my reaction, and tucked a piece of hair behind my ear.
"We can't go back Aurora." He leaned in and kissed me, then gently forced me to lay down again and whispered in my ear.
"Because we are dead."
Because we are dead.
Those words alone were enough to have my eyes bulging out of their sockets with no intent of returning back into place.
Those four terrifying words echoed all throughout my ears and throughout my head, I couldn't help but respond with a-
"What!?"
