"Aurora!" My best friend's voice echoed throughout the hallway. I closed my locker and smiled at the clown I called my friend, watching her run towards me.

I eyed Saylee and waited for her to catch her breath, excitement was clear on her rosy face. As usual, her attire consisted of baggy sweatpants and a t-shirt, her hair was in a messy bun and her brown eyes shined brightly.

"So, there's a party on Friday and we shall attend."

I rolled my eyes playfully but agreed.

"I'll see you later, my brother keeps calling me and he won't stop till he sees me outside." I hugged my best friend, closed my locker, and joyfully walked to the side exit. For some reason no matter how hard I tried my friends and I always found ourselves to be the last ones in the building.

"Hey sis, how was school?"

"Jermaine, you don't have to do this you know? Picking me up every day."

"What do you mean? You're my little sister, of course, I have to." Ever since the death of my father seven months ago, Jermaine has been more protective than ever. Although it took a very long time for me to heal, I had to make peace with myself and my father's absence since that was the best for me and my family. Jermaine helped me through it all and was always kind to me and treated me with respect. To not blame me for the wrongdoing of our parents meant a lot to me, he became my best friend but I knew he had better things to do with him being twenty and in college.

Let me explain our current (or should I say past) situation: Jermaine is my half-brother, how you ask? Well, our mother Lilian used to travel frequently and still does due to her business, I mean she goes all over the place which is no excuse for her infidelity. Lilian with her blonde hair and piercing green eyes is a beautiful woman and for that reason, men fell to their knees for her.

At the time she was happily married to Jermaine's father, Lucas, but found herself drawn to a man named Eden who she met while on a trip to Brazil. Eden, my father to be, came back to the States with my mother and moved here to Seattle for the woman he loved just after weeks of knowing her. That's not the crazy part, the crazy part is, Lucas (who I now call Papa Lu) found out, forgave our mother and met Eden. What happened next? Well, my mother turned out to be pregnant with me and we all coexisted under the same roof. Strange right? To say my parents are interesting is an understatement. I swear our mother used to give them something but I never questioned anything, Jermaine and I had lived a life of happiness and love, what was there to question?

"If you say so irmão", buckling my seatbelt, I continued to speak to my brother in Portuguese testing his skills as he did the same in his father's native Italian language. I guess you could say our mother had a thing for foreign men.

Twenty-five minutes later we finally make it to the city where our mother chose to reside just so she could have her own penthouse in the city. No one would admit it but no matter how happy we all were there always existed an awkward vibe in the air, calling two men dad even if it was in different languages, over the years, only brought about more questions but it was the norm at home and no one would dare question Lilian's House Rules.

"Here they come!" Before we could even exit the elevator our mom rushed to hug us happily something she never failed to do.

"Honey I'd like you to meet the Pierre family, I am working with their mother and father on a new project, they currently live just across the street in the next condo, but I want you to meet their kids and make them feel comfortable." With that being said my mother moved out of eyesight and spread her arm introducing the entire family. "These are my beautiful kids, Aurora and Jermaine. They know the city better than anyone, we have lived here in this very penthouse even before Jermaine was born and never moved! My husband is visiting family in Italy but will be home in a few days. He is very excited to meet you!"

The aesthetics of this family standing in front of me nearly made my jaw drop, but me being the nonchalant master I acted as unphased and as friendly as possible as I shook their hand one by one. First, the father came forth and introduced himself as Markus, then his wife Orion, his baby girl Mariah, his daughter who was my age named Aria, and a boy who towered over me named Leo. They all had jet black hair with streaks of silver, except for the baby who had almost invisible silver hairs on her head similar to the boy Leo who also had a head full of silver. Not an inch of black stained their strands. My eyes couldn't help but eye the boy named Leo, whose eyes looked at the ground, his jaw clenched, nose flared and hands behind his back.

Being in the presence of these newcomers was almost overwhelming, they were so strange but familiar. Were they really here for a business project?
