Kakori Sukomatsu was on cloud nine! A simple visionless girl from the quaint village of Konda, standing on the front gate of the Kamisato Estate! And on top of that, about to be interviewed by the Yashiro Commissioner himself!
Oh Archons! Despite all the practice and training; despite all the sleepless night spent learning the Yashiro Code of Conduct; despite having achieved the first rank among thousands who gave the Yashiro Commission General Entrance Exam, Kakori never quite believed that she would be standing here someday. She felt as if she had eaten a family of butterflies for breakfast.
Kakori was too worried that she might hurl already, but thankfully she kept a leaf of naku beneath her tongue to keep the gag down the gate.
Kamisato Estate's front gates were ornated with violet kawara tiles at the roof bordered with golden linings and intricacies. The gate itself smelled of the freshest otogi, probably exported from Yashiori. The five petalled flower crest was carved into the gates themselves, and then filled in with pure gold. The quality of the very entrance showed how diligent and regal this place was. Kakori's eyes couldn't stop twinkling. This was her Summer Fest. And after what felt like an eternity, the doors nudged open.
Stepping in, Kakori was greeted by a middle-aged lady in a beautiful azure coloured kimono, the clan dye of the Kamisato. She had studied about the various high-ranking members of the clan and commission, and knew this one as Misaki Furuta, the head housekeeper of the Estate.
"Welcome Sukomatsu-san," she said. "You certainly hold a candle to the letter of recommendation we got from Thoma-kun, seeing as you didn't make us wait for even a second. I remember when I was called for the interview, I was late by a full minute."
Kakori couldn't help beaming at that compliment – but kept her composure (as difficult as it was) – and simply smiled at the jest while Misaki chuckled heartily.
"Yes, thank you so much Furuta-san," she said. "I value discipline and diligence above all else, and I will always strive to go that extra mile to achieve the perfection that Yashiro Commission has always shown in its actions and businesses." The sternness and solidity in her voice was proof that she had practiced these lines a thousand times before coming here. Nothing would break her composure today.
They walked towards the main manor, and Kakori was enveloped by a completely different atmosphere. Even though the inside and outside were under the same sky, the surroundings within the Estate's walls were somehow more pleasant. The dry loo was a tepid embrace. The harsh sun was a warm caress. And the general smell was just wonderful.
"Ha! You clearly value kiss-assery above all," a voice came from behind. Puffed with abashment, Kakori turned at the sound of that voice to see the exotic-erotic creature who had become a pleasant part of her dreams for the past few months.
Thoma Ragnvolir stood by the side of the gates with the doorman, Nobumori-san. His beautiful golden locks – which could even make a girl envious – lay in a ponytail on his shoulder. He wasn't in his samurai uniform, but a more casual jacket and undershirt. His tough shoulders, the dream of every girl to lay her head on, shaped the thin clothing nicely. Not to mention his wide chest, which had raised his shirt just a little bit when he stood straight-backed, so it pulled tight against the tuck. How she wished that nature play some mischief and take that shirt out of the tuck. A small peak of his waist would be enough to fuel her dreams for the coming months.
The warm weather was a blessing today, as the low cut of the shirt allowed for debaucherous viewing of his wonderous collarbones and lithe neck, with just the smallest trickle of sweat. His forearms on the other hand were starch, possibly because of working tirelessly throughout the morning. His nerves and muscles were taut, and masculinized his otherwise pretty face. Such an envious contrast he held.
