Chapter 4:"you're funny"

I walked steadily through the classroom area of the school, looking for the grade 10 science department.

Now that I was in the classroom area, I could take a good look at the school compound. It was actually very large. There were about eight buildings in the classroom area, both bungalows and storey buildings, all painted in cream and wine. Cream and wine were the school's signature colours. The buildings were divided into rows of three. They contained classrooms, labs, computer room and the library. In front of each row of buildings was a small garden with trees and grass and colourful flowers, adding to the aesthetic of the school compound.

I looked around. There were so many students, walking around, chatting in groups, hugging each other, laughing, way too loudly. But of course, I was alone. My sister had found her class and followed a friend there. I wanted to ask for help, but I didn't want to talk to anyone, classic me.

"Are you lost?" I heard a voice from behind me. I looked back and saw a tall, muscular figure towering over me. The guy's uniform was already bursting tight because of his taut muscles. I was annoyed but at the same time, mesmerised.
"No, I'm not, please mind your business".
He looked confused as I walked away , feeling really stupid. I really needed help and I blew it. The guy must have seen me wandering about like a lost puppy and decided to help me.

Lucky for me, I found the class the next minute. I guess I didn't really need to ask for help after all. I walked in gently. There were a lot of people inside and they all turned to look at me as I walked in.
I heard whispers: "is that the new girl?", "what's her name?" , "she's pretty", "she's kinda flat though".
Yeahhh, I get that last comment a lot. I admit, I didn't have that conventional feminine figure that most girls my age had. Puberty was hitting everyone hard but I couldn't even start wearing a bra till I turned fifteen three months ago.

But believe me, it was an advantage on my part. Making friends was already hard enough in my "flat" state, talk less of making friends when I know clearly that all they do is stare at my cleavage and buttocks when I was talking to them. I'm alright this way, thanks.

I took a seat at the front of the class and ignored the murmuring. The front of the class had always been my comfort spot. Away from the bickering and shenanigans at the back. I was already settling in when a girl walked up to me suddenly, smiling like a supermodel or something. She took caution in every step she made, almost as if she was "catwalking". Her neatly braided long hair fell on either side of her shoulder.
"Hey, new girl" she said, immediately she reached my seat.
"Yes?" I said and looked up to see her raging eyes which were beautiful by the way. I didn't know how to explain it but she had this matured face that could make you shiver from intimidation. Her face seemed like it started it's blooming stage far earlier than the rest of us. She was also tall and with a model like body structure. Gorgeous.

"Are you lost?" She asked, fuming.
Ditto, the second time I was hearing this question in just a space of three minutes.
"What?" I was so confused.
"You're on the wrong seat, dummy " she said and banged her fist on the table.
I stood up from the seat feeling embarrassed. Who was this chick anyway? But being the person I was, I decided to play calm.
"I'm really sorry, but there's no need to be so aggressive. I saw a vacant seat and sat down. No one told me you were occupying it".
"Did I say I was occupying it? I said you are on the wrong seat idiot!".
"What are you saying?" I said, fighting the urge to punch her in her perfect teeth.
"I've kept this seat for someone else, so you can make like a rubber tree and bounce from here!" She said, and tipped off my school beret from my head.
Alright, this was the height of it. I looked at her from head to toe and said the words i might have later regretted.
"You know, where I come from, people don't make this much noise, miss" there was silence for a split second and everyone turned to look at me.
Oops, I was too loud. What an irony.
The next second, there was a loud noise coming from the back of the class. soon, the whole class started screaming.
"Yeeee!!! E pain you o!!!"
"E choke!!!"
Then the noise went on and on like in those movies with a scene where someone was stuck in an extra quiet room. If the person made any slight sound, it echoed over and over again.

I looked forward and saw the rage in the girl's eyes. I thought she was about to punch me when I heard someone call her name.
"Moyo, leave her alone".
She looked back and I did the same.
My jaw dropped. It was him, the mysterious boy. He had been watching all the commotion from the back of the class all along.
I think he had some kind of authority because immediately he talked, the noise died out.

"Micheal, please mind your business"she said, trying to be tough.
Wait, she just said his name, and now I know he's in my department, great, double combo.
He stared blankly at her and folded his arms. "you are causing a lot of commotion, you know, and I'm sure you also know that it can draw the attention of any teacher passing by. I expect you to know the right thing to do".
"Whatever, but I'm not allowing her to take my seat."
" you just said it's not your seat!". I interrupted.
Both of them turned to face me.
"You had better watch your step, cinderella, as long as I'm in this school."she said and walked away, still catwalking.
Wait, what did she just call me?

"Hey, you don't need to worry about her," Micheal said, before I could run after her and punch her in the face for calling me "cinderella".
"She just hates new students for nothing and says stupid things to intimidate others, she can't do anything to you, okay?"
What a saviour,I thought.
"yeah, thanks very much by the way" I said.

"Sooo, do you need a seat?". He asked.
"What? Well, maybe..I think" I stuttered.
He laughed."No worries, you can sit beside me".
"Beside you?" I asked, puzzled, knowing that I might not be able to focus during classes.
"Yes, anything wrong?"he asked.
"Nope" I said.
He laughed again."You're funny."
"What? How?" I asked, wondering how anyone in this world would think I'm funny.
"I don't know, you're just funny"
"I don't know if that's a compliment or not" I said.
"Oh, it's a compliment, all right" he said, giving me his million dollar smile and exposing his perfectly white teeth.
I blushed a little, then put on a serious face before he could notice.

I walked to my new seat beside him and started arranging my books into the locker. The seat wasn't in the front of the class, it was in the middle, which was a change for me.
"So, your name is Adejare doyin" he said, holding up one of my books.
"Yes, and stop going through my books!" I said, grabbing it aggressively from his hands.
"Woah, easy there, funny girl" he said, laughing.
Ugh! That word again. This is gonna be a loooooong term.
