Hellboy, Carey, and Abe found themselves surrounded by hungry looking ghouls, the screeching, slobbering beasts leaping at them with surprising agility. "Can't you use your powers to talk to them or something?" The tall red demon asked. "I'm trying!" Carey snapped "but they won't listen to me!" Dammit, if I can't reason with them, then shooting ghouls looks like our only option she thought to herself. A ghoul jumped onto Hellboy's broad shoulders, only to be flung off when he took a swing at it. More ghouls advanced, all being struck by the demon's giant stone fist. "Take your best shot" he dared the undead horrors. Hissing in anger, they gladly accepted the demon's challenge. "Red, what are you doing?!" Abe asked exasperated. "Relax, Abe, I've got this. Just take Carey and run" Carey shot him a look, "Excuse me? Come on, we can't just leave you alone with these things! You heard what Abe said, if you get bitten, you'll ghoul bait!" she yelled. A ghoul leapt at her, only to be shot down. "You got any better ideas?" As much as she wanted to argue, Hellboy was right. Abe grabbed her hand, beckoning her to run and she did. Sprinting through the graveyard, Carey could hear her heartbeat thundering in her chest. She could hear Abe's heartbeat racing as well. "Abe, are you sure we can outrun those ghouls?" she asked. "I'm not sure" he panted, "But we'll need to get the antidote in case Red is bitten. Ghouls will attack and kill almost anything infected with their venom" A ghoul ambushed them, pouncing down from a dead tree. Carey shrieked with panic and fright, shooting it down. But it did little good. The two psychics found themselves surrounded by ghouls now. Without Hellboy to help them fend off these monsters, the only protection they had from the beasts was their shrinking supply of bullets. Carey slowed her breathing, calming herself down enough to think clearly. "Okay, there are more of them than there are of us, and we're running low on ammo. You got any bright ideas, Abe?" The Icthyo Sapien spotted a mausoleum with its door open just a crack. "There, the mausoleum" he pointed. Shooting down enough ghouls to make their escape, the two agents made a mad dash for their improvised refuge. The door was heavy, so it required a large portion of their strength to pry it open enough for them to squeeze through. "It's open" darting inside, Abe and Carey slammed the mausoleum shut behind them, listening to the ghouls bang against the door. Once they were safe, they fell on their butts, exhausted. "We should be safe for now" Abe panted. "Yeah, but about Red? He's still out there with those things and we can't just leave him alone" Carey was right, but there was little they could do for him now. "We'll find a way out of this, Carey" He assured her, but Abe honestly didn't know how could do it. Carey leaned herself against the sarcophagus in the middle of the mausoleum. It unexpectedly slid backwards, causing her to fall through a passage that was hidden underneath. Carey screamed more in surprise than fright, "Carey!" Abe whipped around dashed to the edge of the passageway. "I'm okay" she said, poking her head above the ledge. It was only was deep as her shoulders. "I dare say you might have found us a way out" Sliding down into the passageway, Abe and Carey were forced to crawl through the narrow tunnel, which grew colder and wetter the further they went until finally, Abe holding the flashlight in one hand, Carey felt there was a dead end. "Um, Abe, I think this is as far as we can go" She told the Icthyo Sapien behind her, "Now what are we going to do?" Abe gently tapped the girl on leg, prompting her attention. "Would you mind if I tried something?" he asked. Carey pressed herself against the wall of the tunnel as best she could so Abe would have room to move in front of her. Ungloving his hand, he laid it on the ancient stone surface. "It's not a dead end" he told her. "What do you mean?" she asked, confused. Pointing the flashlight back to the wall, Abe pushed his hand against it, causing it to open up and reveal a much wider passageway.
