Marcy had always been a quiet girl, since the day she was born, she didnt cry or scream or shout as a baby or a toddler.
Her parents loved this, they got theyre full nights of sleep.Marcy also got overwhelmed very easily as a child, everything would be too loud all the time causing her to cry, which was the only time she was ever loud.
It would happen at the park, on the bus, in an airplane especially. Everything just got so loud and everything smelt bad and everything she touched felt disgusting.
Eventually her mom knew something was wrong and it wasnt normal for a child her age to be so quiet and cry when entering a public space. Even though her mom loved the quiet she got her tested and spoke to multiple doctors and therapists and the answer was
all the same.She had autism and selective mutism.
Obviously at the time Marcy didn't know what that meant she didn't understand herself she was only 4, she barley saw the world.
But her mom was also shocked and also didn't know what to do.
Thankfully her mom was rich so she got Marcy a therapist and the therapist also gave her advice on how to help, they found out her triggers to a sensory meltdown. Wet surfaces, loud noises, and people touching her randomly.They also told her mom that she will speak to people who are close to her.
And it was true she spoke to her mom allot, especially about her favourite thing.
Dragons.
Marcy loved dragons and video games they calmed her down and she loved talking about them.
So when her new next door neighbour complimented her room and her teddy that were both dragon themed it felt like the best thing in the world she felt so happy that she went to play a video game and showed her the video game.
For Marcy it was the first time that someone payed attention to her that wasnt her mom or her doctors, it made her want to spin around and talk about all the dragon facts and all the mythical creature facts she knew because she knew Anne would listen.
Even when Anne touched her without permission she didn't start crying she felt a warm feeling inside her stomach and it didn't feel bad it felt good.
Slowly the more Anne talked and played with her the more Marcy talked and laughed and smiled at her.
She finally found her best friend.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Marcy spun around in a circle waiting for Anne to arrive, she said they were going to the park today. Marcy didnt really like the park, there were usually lots of sounds which caused her to cry but she knew with Anne by her side she could do it.The doorbell rang and Marcy quickly ran down the stairs slipping on the bottom one and landing on her butt.
"Ow" she mumbled and hobbled over to the door.
"Marcy are you okay?" Her mom said shouting from the kictchen
"Yes mom im okay!" Marcy said quietly.
The door bell rang again and Marcy remembered what she was doing. She opened the door and saw Annes beaming smile and her pretty eyes looking at her.
Anne pulled Marcy in for a hug, Marcy flinched but slowly fell into the hug and smiled warmly.
"Hi Marcy!" Anne said pulling away from the hug and bouncing up and down.
"Hi anne" Marcy said quietly
The bright sweltering sun shone through the door and you could tell Anne was sweating standing in it."So are you ready to go to the park Marbles?" Anne said giggling and taking her hand.
Marcy blushed at the nickname. Anne made it a few days ago saying that it was because she was so clumsy.
"Yeah im ready let me just tell my mom" Marcy said looking at the floor still blushing.
She ran over to her mom and gave her a hug before saying
"Mom im going to the park with Anne Mrs Boonchuy is picking us up"
"Thats fine then just dont stay out too late and if something happens tell Anne to call me okay?" Mrs Wu said smiling and hugging her tight."Yes mom" Marcy answered and ran off holding Annes hand.

Marcy and Anne held hands as they walked to the park. Theyre hands were both sticky and both were sweating.
"Marcy you know summer break is almost over. What school are you going to go to?" Anne questioned stopping and looking at Marcy.
"Hmm i dont know yet whatever school is the closest." Marcy said smiling at Anne
"That means you would be going to my school Marcy!" Anne said excitedly jumping up and down again.
Marcy smiled at the idea of going to the same school as Anne, they could walk to school together and sit next to eachother. She finally wouldnt be alone.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Marcy zoned out the whole time while walking to the park just nodding her head at the things Anne said and holding her hand tightly, she was still thinking about going to school with Anne.
"So yeah i think theres supposed to be another new kid joining my class aswell as you!" Anne said noticing Marcy was zoning out.
"Marcy? Marcy?" Anne asked poking the girl in the side.
This made Marcy giggle and turn back to Anne.
"Sorry i was listening." Marcy said with a small smile.Anne squeezed Marcys hand and giggled a little "sure you were" she said sarcastically.
Marcy didnt understand that so she just nodded.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The sun was at its highest point by the time Anne and Marcy got to the park.
The park was actually empty, which was suprising usually there would be lots of kids and there sticky fingers everywhere which overwhelmed Marcy.
She sighed a sigh of relief and starred at Anne who was looking at a blonde girl in the sandpit."Look Mar Mar ive never seen her before maybe shes the new girl!" Anne said excitedly.
Marcy wasnt good at talking to new people so she started twitching nervously.
Anne noticed this and looked at the girl and held her hand.
"Its okay Marbles you dont need to say anything to her just hold my hand and stand by me" Anne said with a kind smile.Marcy took a deep breathe and followed Anne clinging onto her hand.
