First day of middle school. Gotta get dressed nicely, so I can make a good first impression. I wonder if Braden and Ryan remember if today is the first day... well, their fault if they didn't. Clean sweater, skirt, leggings... alright, ready to go! "Seeya Mom! Off to school." I said, trying to sound cheerful.
"Alright, honey. Meet lots of new people!" Mom said, in her bright and cheerie voice.
I decided to ride the bus, so I could talk to Braden and Ryan.
"Hey Lucy! How are you? Excited for the first day of middle school?" Ryan asked.
"Not really. Are you?" I said.
"Excited as I'll ever be." Ryan replied.
The bus arrived, and everyone slowy got on he bus, chattering about how much they hated school. Once we all arrived, everyone unpacked their school supplies, and sat in their new desks.
"Hello everyone, how are you all doing?" My teacher, Mrs. Banks said.
"Good!" Everyone shouted.
The day continued normally, and everyone had a pretty good time. Braden and I got lost a few times, but Ryan knew the way and helped us around. Pretty soon, the day was already over! Mrs. Banks talked about what we would be doing tomorrow. In our middle school we didn't have periods, our city was too poor to hire multiple teachers for every subject.
"That wasn't too bad." Braden said glumly.
"Mrs. Banks is nice" Ryan added.
By house was closer to the school than anyone else, so I was the first to get home. Thinking Ryan would want to come over I said, "Got to go! Bye guys!"
"Hi honey! How was school?" Mom asked as I walked in the front door.
"It was ok. Mom... I have a question. Why did you and Dad divorce? I mean... you said that you both loved eachother, so why'd you two not want to be together?"
"Lucy... your father didn't want a child. When I gave him the news, he freaked out and didn't want to be with me." Mom said sadly.
"Oh. I'm going o my room now... it's been a long first day." I lied.
I did my homework, thtought of Braden and Ryan, ate dinner, and just had a normal afternoon. I got dressed in my baggy and fleece pants, then went to bed. My eyes slowly shut, and I wondered if I would ever see my Dad again.
