As Sentinel went on a rampage, Bee hid the humans.

"Sentinel, what is going on?" Prowl asked. "You must realize, my Autobot brothers, we were never going to win the war. A deal had to be made with the Decepticons." Sentinel sneered.

"You made a deal with the Decepticons?!" Ratchet exclaimed, shocked and angered at his brother. "Indeed, I did." Sentinel replied.

With that said, Sentinel shot an unexpected Ironhide with his Cosmic Rust Cannon. Ironhide fell to the ground and coughed up Energon.

"What have you done?" Ironhide asked. "I hereby discharge you from duty." Sentinel replied, transforming and driving off.

"No! Ironhide!" Ratchet exclaimed. He got held back by Bulkhead and Arcee. "Ratch, get out of here." Ironhide rasped. "Forget it, 'Hide. I'm going after Sentinel." Ratchet replied, breaking free.

He transformed and drove after the former Autobot. When he found Sentinel, everyone followed, even Ironhide. "Sentinel, why? Why are you doing this?" Ratchet asked.

"I had to make a deal. To keep Cybertron alive." Sentinel replied. "Cybertron is gone! Beyond repair! You didn't have to do any of this! You were my brother." Ratchet pointed out.

"What is happening?" Samuel Witwicky asked. "Don't know. Probably a fight." Miko Nakadi replied. Just then, there was a loud clang and everyone looked.

Ratchet and Sentinel were fighting. Sentinel threw a punch but Ratchet did a backflip and kicked Sentinel to the ground. Ratchet then saw a gun and picked it up. He then cocked it and pointed it at his brother.

"Ratchet, all I ever wanted was the survival of our planet and for you to love me." Sentinel stated. "I've always loved you, Sentinel. You didn't betray me; you betrayed yourself." Ratchet replied.

"Ratchet, no!" Sentinel exclaimed. Ratchet pulled the trigger and shot Sentinel in the head. "Rest well, Big Brother." Ratchet whispered as he threw the gun to the ground.

A weak and pained groan made Ratchet look up. Ironhide was clinging to consciousness and life. Ratchet immediately rushed to his sparkmate and pulled Ironhide into his arms.

"Ratch?" Ironhide asked, weakly. "It's ok, Hide. I'm here now. I'm right here. Shh." Ratchet soothed, stroking Ironhide's helm. Ironhide groaned weakly and in agony.

"I'm gettin' tired, Ratch." Ironhide strained. "Go to sleep, Hide. I'll be here for when you wake up." Ratchet soothed. Ironhide nuzzled into Ratchet's chest and slowly closed his optics, passing away in Ratchet's arms.

Ratchet held Ironhide's limp body and sobbed quietly in heartbreak and guilt. "Ratchet?" Bulkhead asked. Ratchet looked at everyone with coolant streaming down his faceplates.

"Ratchet, we're so sorry for your loss." Jack stated, dullfully. Ratchet looked at the limp body in his arms and gently laid him on the ground. He had an unusual look in his optics.

"I'll be back later. I need to clear my mind. Don't bury him yet. I'll do that for Ironhide." Ratchet stated, looking back at his beloved, and now deceased, sparkmate.

Once Ratchet was gone, did everyone truly look at the weapons specialist. "Wait...is it just me or is he breathing again?" Bee asked. Ironhide's chest moved up and down, breathing.

"He's breathing!" Sam exclaimed. William Lennox ran up to his close friend and saw that Ironhide had opened his optics. "'Hide?" Will asked.

"Will?" Ironhide asked, confused. As he slowly stood up, the injuries from the cannon were gone. The weapons specialist looked around for his sparkmate but couldn't find Ratchet anywhere and their bond was dampened.

"Where's Ratchet at?" Ironhide asked, still confused. "He killed Sentinel and drove off after you died." Bulkhead replied. "I....died?" Ironhide questioned.

"For a few brief minutes, yes. Your spark started on its own and revived you. Ratchet is really bad off. He's depressed and shutting us out." Arcee replied.

Later that day, Ratchet returned to the base. He had coolant streaks down his faceplates from crying in solitude. "You okay, Ratchet?" Raf asked. Ratchet didn't reply, just stared ahead of him, looking at nothing or anyone.

"Ratchet?" Miko asked, worried. No reply or look from the CMO. It was eerie and freaking everyone else out. Ratchet looked like he wanted to give up.

"Ratchet, someone wants to see you." Jazz stated. No reply or look from the medic. Ironhide stepped quietly in, the medic turned away from him. Jazz nodded to the weapons specialist and Ironhide knew what he meant.

"Hello, Ratchet."

Ratchet's helm darted up and he looked at Ironhide; a mixture of different emotions. Finally, Ratchet found his voice. "Hide?" Ratchet asked.

"Yeah. It's me. And before you ask, Primus gave me a second chance to live." Ironhide responded. He hugged the CMO, who was speechless and somewhat confused.

Eventually, Ratchet hugged back, afraid to let go. That night, Ratchet got cuddled by Ironhide who is happy to be with his beloved. After that, nothing separated the sparkmates.
