I awoke to moss nudging me with his paw. "Ow! that hurts!" I exclaimed.

"Sorry," he replied, laughing. "Let's get going."

I stretched and headed out of the hollow. "Where should we go?"

"How about over there?" he pointed with his tail to the path leading to the river, padding in that direction as I followed.

We padded on for some time, until I heard something rustling in a nearby bush. I stopped, ears pricked, fur on end, staring at the bush. Moss stared at me, confusion in his eyes. Then the rustling started again. Moss must have heard it then, because his fur stood up and he stood still too. I detected the scent of the creature inside the bush... A cat? I was pretty sure it was.

"Well, don't just stand there like little scared rabbits! Come at me!" growled the cat in the bush.

My heart was pounding so hard it felt like it was going to burst out of my chest. I shrieked as the stranger leaped at me. It was a silver she-cat with lighter gray stripes. She had stunning blue eyes, lit with a burning fire of fury. I was so stunned by her beauty and grace I forgot to move out of the way, and she landed perfectly on top of me, her claws penetrating deep into my skin. I shrieked again in pain and tried to bolt away, but the she cat was so heavy I tumbled to the ground as I tried. Moss leaped at the attacker, knocking her over and flinging me into the air. I laid down to catch my breath, but I told myself I had to help moss. I sank my teeth into the enemy's scruff, the taste of blood bathing my tounge. The silver she-cat growled and flung me off as if I was a leaf. Moss raked his claws against the attackers flank, leaving wounds. I could see satisfaction in his eyes. The she-cat was about to leap again, but I yelled "STOP!"

"...Yes, KIT?" the attacker paused and sneered.

"Why did you attack us? Are we on your territory?" I asked.

The she-cat sighed and said, "Yes. Sorry, I should have just warned you, I don't know what I was doing." She paused and added, "What are you doing here? There aren't usually any roughs walking around on RiverClan territory."

Riverclan? I thought, Wow! this is a RiverClan cat. "Well..." I began.

"Oh, sorry. I forgot to introduce myself." The she-cat interrupted, "my name is Icepaw, and my friends call me Ice."

"My name is Moss," Moss replied.

"And my name is Fluffy," I said, preparing myself for a tease or a giggle, but I heard none, surprisingly.

    "Nice names," Icepaw replied.

"Icepaw?" asked Moss, "We were going to join a clan because we were tired of living on our own..."

Tired of living on our own? I said to myself, We were only on our own for one night.

"...So I was wondering if we could join your clan?" finished Moss.

"Well..." Ice replied, "I'll have to talk to my leader about that. She doesn't usually let stranger cats in. Wait here until I ask her?"

I glanced at Moss. he glanced back at me, seeming to ask me to reply. "Sure," I said.
