-It's unclear exactly what type(s) of spiders Ankou & Charon are based on, but I would suspect Ankou is based on a species from the Gasteracantha genus--  the spiny orb-weavers (look 'em up if you like spiders, they're the most beautiful and most strange-looking spiders the world has to offer!). Note their shoulder pads, which may be meant to resemble the genus's characteristic abdominal spines.

- As for Charon, I would guess he's just based on a generic spider, although it's possible he's meant to somewhat imitate a male Lactrodectus-genus spider-- males of most species in this particular genus are venomous, significantly smaller than females, and have black & white markings.

-Ankou and Charon don't need to do this because they're stinky lameass vertebrates, but in real life, spiders push fluid into their legs to extend them in order to walk! That's right, spiders get leg boners with every step they take. You're welcome.

-Though portrayed as not quite yet an adult, Charon probably ain't getting any taller assuming he follows actual spider biology rules. Most male spiders stay TINY!
