Soon after the visitor left, whose name Arlo only found out shortly before they walked into her room because one of the girls in her room had said it, they all went back to lessons to finish off what was left of the school day, although it wasn't the usual hour long lessons and they didn't do anything that required too much serious brain power.

When asked, the caretakers told all of the kids that Miss Johansson was planning on going back to her home to think about her decision before she would get back to them with the results of her choice. Although Arlo didn't really pay much attention to this conversation as she still had her heart and head set in the thought that today wasn't going to mean much to her future and that she would still be here by the end of the week.

However that evening she couldn't help but pay more attention the the other kids' conversations at the dining table, all of them talking about different variations of how their lives could change if they were the ones that got adopted by the woman. Also, that night when all of the girls in her room were getting ready for bed, the visitor was all they could talk about, sharing each of their thoughts about who they think will be leaving them soon.

It was at this time that Arlo allowed her mind to slip into the wonderland of 'what if?', that she rarely ever ventured into. What if she was the one who got adopted by the women? She knew it was unlikely since they barely shared any interaction at all. What if she got adopted but it was one of those bad homes that she'd heard about from some of the older kids, the ones that aren't a happy ending to a life in an orphanage? Arlo didn't think that Miss Johansson seemed like that type, but Arlo also knew that she knew close to nothing about her and that you should never judge a book by its cover. Their lights were turned off but Arlo stayed in her mind, imagining what it would be like to live like a normal child, with a loving family, far away from any orphanages. What it would be like to be happy, and have friends and family surrounding and supporting her all the time. Just as she was about to fall asleep, one last thought briefly trespassed through her mind, what it would be like to actually talk to some one that cared for her and loved her.
