Who is that which is creeping right behind you..?
For most of human history, rises and falls are always attributed to overreliance and overconfidence on the very creation they propped up. A blessing of a success everyone had exploited, quickly became a curse. It is unknown how Sirens have first risen, but the threat of their existence was made clear when the first pawns sailed into the seas. Globalization through the sea was driven to a halt as they attacked every vessel on sight. Coastal cities were evacuated as buildings were leveled by missiles and plasma bombs. Even inland people could not find much safety as Siren bombers hung overhead whenever an opportunity presented itself, raining hell on those unfortunate to be under their shadows
It was not until humans rebranded Siren's mental cube to create their own kansens, which in turn combats the threat to humanity. And still, the plague has been far from cured. Disagreements split the coalition of Azur Lane, birthing the Crimson Axis who aligned themselves with the Sirens and their technological prowess. In a cruel twist of fate, the goal to put the Sirens down has been achieved. But in its place came a new enemy, and even more so the Siren threat has not yet been fully pulled out from its root. Merely incapacitated, the elites still continue harboring in the background, observing quietly...
"Phew~" Suffolk said as she wiped at her brow with a handkerchief, "I think this is the correct coordinates!"
Two shipgirls sailed near a large and badly damaged cruiser, the normally blue sea and sky have been completely transformed to a muddy and dark brown and black hue as oil leaked and smoke licked the air. They had never seen such a ship before, the design is completely different from what they are used to usually. The broadsides of the superstructure had a large insignia labeled over, a circle with three arrows pointing in
"Has to be..." The girl next to her said, she was of a smaller frame, wearing a red cloak, "They said there has been a distress signal flooding endlessly from this location... Must be this stranded ship,"
Suffolk placed her hand over her eyes as she squinted and sailed closer, Norfolk was hesitant and grabbed at Suffolk's skirt while looking up with eyes full of worry, "T-There won't be any monsters or g-g-ghost r-right?"
The word ghost sent shivers up Suffolk's back, ever since she joined the Eagle Union girls on tuning in to a ghost story (It was a horrible idea), she has been on edge at every mention of the paranormal. She slapped herself on both her cheeks gently as she started a channel with the burning vessel
"N-No worries, they are people who need our help! There's no monster here," She reached her arms out and stroke Norfolk's head, comforting her slightly before clearing her throat, "This is HMS Suffolk of the Royal Navy and Azur Lane, please respond,"
The radio channel was silent, but the distress signal continued to pour out endlessly, "Ahem, this is the HMS Suffolk of the Royal Navy and Azur Lane, please respond,"
Again the channel was dead, not even static could be heard. The vessel must be abandoned or the crew is being extremely inconsiderate given the situation, which can't be the case. Norfolk and Suffolk looked at each other and back at the cruiser still leaking smoke and oil. Norfolk fidgeted uncomfortably at her cloak as she looked back up at her peer, "W-What do we do now?""No other choice now!" Suffolk said as she pumped her fists, "Let us board!"
"E-Eh?" Norfolk whined, Suffolk simply raised a finger and lectured her, "Listen, it's someone out in the sea that needs help. It is one of our duties to help those who are in need!" She gently held Norfolk's hand as they sailed closer to the cruiser, "Let's go!"
..."Hello~?" Suffolk stuck her head in the captain's room, but it was empty. However, like most of the cabins throughout the cruiser, there were heavy signs of damage sustained from battle. She walked over to the computers and to her luck, some survived the damage and remained functional. Norfolk went to the opposite side of the cabin and gingerly looked over at the pile of documents scattered throughout the desk and floor. Suffolk pressed some buttons on the keypad but it resulted in a dead-end as every screen merely resulted in "Please enter credentials." The girls looked around further in the room and every piece of detail confirmed to her that this ship indeed belong to an organization. The ship they were standing on was coined "SCPS Shield," and from one of the monitors (That was thankfully unlocked with reports readable), a list of combat logs can be found ranging from weeks to months prior. The most recent combat log however was very recent, dated only a day ago
