PAST

Mitchell sat in the backseat of a fancy expensive car. He felt small in the middle of the grand white leather seat. A man sat across from him in a black suit. Rain pelted the exterior of the black Rolls-Royce.

"I'm very sorry about your parents. I know what you must be going through. It's very painful. But I want to help you get through it." The man said. Mitchell looked into the man's eyes.

He remained silent as tears stung his eyes hazel eyes.

He refused to cry. Not in front of a stranger. He wanted to be strong for his dad. For his mom.

But his will was faltering every passing second. He bit his tongue to keep from crying out.

The pain from the action was enough to keep the tears at bay. But he had a feeling that they would eventually fall.

"It's okay to cry, Mitchell." The man said in a calm voice before taking a seat beside the small boy, as opposed to sitting across from him.

Mitchell looked up at the tall man with reddened teary eyes. "I want to go home." Mitchell whimpered.

"I know, kiddo. I know. I'm sorry. I wish you could go home, too." The man told him with a kind smile.

"Will they ever catch the man who...who killed them?" Mitchell asked.

"There's no doubt in my mind that whoever killed your parents...will be caught. You better believe...someone out there will make sure that they never do it again." The man answered.

"Really?" The boy croaked rubbing his left eye. "This is Gotham after all, buddy." The man said with a smile.

"And home to the Batman." He added looking at the boy beside him. "Batman's too busy saving the world to deal with finding my parents' killer. I'm not worth his time. I'm just a kid." The boy said quietly lowering his head.

The man looked at the small child sadly. He noticed a tear roll down the boy's small face. He heard a small sniffle as the tear dropped to the floor of the car.

He slowly wrapped his left arm around the kid's shoulders and gently pulled him closer to him. The boy, finally giving into his sad emotions, leaned into the embrace and sobbed into the man's chest.

The man...Bruce Wayne...looked out the window gritting his teeth in anger.

Where was that scum now? I want him to pay! No child should EVER have to go through this!

Bruce looked up at the night sky and noticed the bat signal high in the air. Criminals would be running away right now. The very sight of the bat signal was enough to scare some of the dumb criminals away. But for many...it was the beginning of a fun night.

They had a chance to have their go at the Bat. Hoping that they would finally be the one to him down.

None have ever succeeded, and tonight...nobody will survive Batman's rage. His ras unbridled rage that he felt for this hurt child. He wanted them to feel this child's pain. Ten fold. And they will.

They. Will.
