"Rydel! Get out the shower you've been in there for half an hour!" I whine, pounding my fists against the bathroom door.
"Fine, fine! I'm done!" The door opens and she walks out with a towel wrapped around her and a floral shower bag. "She's all yours."
Rolling my eyes at my best friend, I quickly run into the shower and turn on the hot water. Realising, from the amount of people in the house, it was now cold, I just jumped in and quickly washed my hair and body before jumping out again. I brushed my teeth before heading back to the bedroom wrapped in a huge pink towel.
"You better hurry up." Rydel warns as I walk in. She was sitting by the mirror that is situated in our room, doing her makeup. Already, she was dressed in a light pink maxi dress, which slowly faded darker as the dress grew longer, and a pair of nude heels were on her feet.
"It's not my fault somebody used up all the hot water and wouldn't get out until she was certain she wouldn't turn into a mermaid."
"Hey! I was 10 years old!" She stamps her feet in protest.
"Sure, you were Delly." I tease her, looking through my wardrobe and pulling out a white knee length dress. On the top was a beautiful pattern and the whole thing fitted me perfectly.
"Who are you trying to impress?" Rydel laughs as I pull it out.
"What? Too much?"
"No! It's gorgeous!" She exclaims running over. "Where did you get this?"
"It was my Nana's. We went into a designer and they had it made more for me but I guess you could its a family thing." I chuckle slightly, as she holds the bottom of the dress in both her hands.
"Put it on, now." I roll my eyes and quickly change as Rydel continues to finish her hair and makeup. Sloping the dress over my head, I put my arms through the sleeves which cross at the back.
"Delly can you zip this up for me?" I ask her.
"I want to steal this dress from you." She laughs as I turn so she can do it up. "No wonder my brother likes you."
"Not this again." I whine.
"Oh come on! It's so obvious!"
"Ross has a girlfriend! And I don't like him like that." She finishes zipping up the dress and I turn to look at her.
"Sure you don't, sweetie." She taps the side of my cheek before dragging me over to the mirror. "Now I just need to curl your hair."
~Ross~
"Dude, we need to talk." Riker says once we've finished getting ready. I look at him a confused look on my face.
"About?"
"You and Maia." He folds his arms, smirking slightly.
"Nothing's going on between us." I roll my eyes.
"Your lying," he chuckles slightly. "You always do that when you lie." He points down at my left hand. Looking down, I notice that I was playing with the edge of my t shirt, immediately I move my hand away and fold them in front of my chest like Riker.
"Why are you so obsessed with the thought of me liking Maia? I have a girlfriend, remember?"
"Because you really like her!" Riker replays sarcastically. "Ross, you know it. You like Maia."
"I don't!"
"So your not attracted to her in anyway?" He smirks at me.
"No!" My voice goes tight as I say it making it obvious I way lying. "Okay maybe but she's just my friend."
"Just a friend?" He looks at me with wide eyes, and I know he thinks it's more than what I'm saying. "So your just friends? If Maia was to get a boyfriend and not be single anymore, you would be cool with it?"
"I guess..." I scratch the back of my head. The thing was, the last time she had a boyfriend, he broke her heart. And it killed me seeing her break down like that, although I didn't show that to her. The thought of her being in a relationship with somebody, made me feel... I don't know how to describe it. It makes me tense up and stomach tighten. It makes my skin hot and fists clench. Wait was does that mean?
"Believe that you like her yet?"
"No because I don't! Not like that anyway." I shake my head and walk out the room, fed up of the conversation.
"Keep thinking that bro!" I roll my eyes and head further down the corridor. I turn one of the corners quickly and bump into somebody.
"Ow!" I hear someone laugh slightly. I look down and the whole world just seems to stop in time.
Maia was there in a beautiful white dress, her hair down in messy beach waves. She had only light makeup on her face, which matched the simple but detailed look amazingly.
"H-hey." I stutter slightly, smiling like an idiot.
"Sup Shor?" She pushes my arm slightly. "You trying to knock me out?" Her smile took my breath away and my hands started to feel sweaty. Wait what? No!
Ross she's your best friend and you also have a girlfriend already.
But Casey hated Maia with a passion.
But Maia is like my sister right?
Not really actually, it seems weird if she was like my sister.
But I'm not attracted to Maia like that.
Nope.
Nope.......
Maybe a little?
Ugh!
"Hey daydreamer?" The girl snaps her finger in front of my fave, removing me from my daze.
"What, sorry?" Maia shakes her head and laughs at me, making my heart seem to skip a beat.
This is not happening right now!
"I said, do you know where we're going for dinner?"
"Umm. I think there taking us to a restaurant on the beach." I answer, unable to think properly. I've never felt like this before. What the hell is this? I brush it off and pretend like nothing's wrong. But throughout the whole night, I can't stop stealing glances at my best friend.
"You might want to spend less time looking at Maia and more at your girl friend before she notices." Riker mumbles to me as he walks past me to get to the table we were going to eat at.
~back to Maia~
"You know, Ross has been staring at you all night." Rydel mumbles to me.
"What? No he hasn't." I brush it off, twisting my fork in my carbonara and eating another mouth full.
"Yes he has! And don't act like you hadn't been looking at him." I roll my eyes but take a quick glance at Ross. He was wearing a black muscle teen with a pair of jeans; the sunglasses on his head pushing his hair back.
"We're only friends. See he's with Casey." I motion towards the two of them who were holding hands as they talked to Rocky, Ry and Brandon.
"You realise , he doesn't even like her? He's told me that himself." I couldn't help but feel a little pain in my heart. Me and Ross told eachother everything, but that had slipped past.
"Oh..." I mumble, suddenly I wasn't very hungry anymore even though I hadn't eaten all day. Something was definitely wrong with me today. All the littlest things were picking at me one by one. Getting on the plane, the conversation over heard, lack of sleep. To the point were I just wanted them all to go away.
As if something had switched on inside of me, I became aware of everything. How I my breathing was becoming uneven, legs shaking slightly and mind racing. My heart beat went from one to one hundred in a split second.
"Excuse me." I say quietly, the chair scraping against the floor and the sound makes me wince slightly. Hurrying as quickly as I could in my heels, my mind becomes clouded and vision blurry, I stumble onto the beach which was outside the restaurant. I turned around, looking for somewhere to hide. But there wasn't anywhere to go.
"Mai!" The voice sounded like a distant echo, placing both of my hands to my ears as I feel dizzy. Soon I feel my legs begin to fail and I'm falling back, only to be caught by a pair of strong arms. Through the blurred vision of my eyes, I saw Ross' extremely concerned facial expression.
"Ross what's happening?" I hear somebody shout as he takes me over to a bench and sets me down. People all flood around me, causing me to feel claustrophobic, struggling to breath.
"Panic attack." His echoing voice is calm which brings me the slightest bit of hope. "Riker, go get her some water."
"Do you need us to call an ambulance, sir?" A man I don't know asks him.
"No she'll be okay, just everyone stop crowding her." He demands them before he turns to me again.
"Calm down okay? Nothing's going to happen, I promise. Just breath, slowly." He murmurs to me, taking my hands in his as he breaths in time with me, helping me concentrate more.
"Whys she having one?" Riker ask as he passes Ross the water bottle.
"I have no idea, I'm not asking her about that yet." He tells him quietly, once again his attention draws back on me. "Here, don't drink it all at once. Your gonna be okay." He tells me, handing me the open water bottle and pushing a piece of my hair back.
"Thank you." I manage to gasp. "I'm sorry."
"Your welcome and don't be sorry. It's not your fault." He shakes his head. Eventually, I manage to steady my breathing and drink tiny sips of water until I have calmed down slightly. On the other hand, I couldn't stop shaking and I felt like I going to be sick.
"Mai? Do you want to take you back to the villa?" Ross mumbles to me after he had a conversation with my mother Nd father.
"It's fine, you guys stay here and I can walk back alone." I tell him, attempting to stand on my feet but Ross gently pushes me back down.
"Your mad if you think your doing that." He shakes his head.
"Well I need to go back and I don't to ruin everyone's time." I get up again, but this time he picks me up in his arms.
"Your not ruining anything, okay? But I'm taking you back whether you like it or not." He states, smirking slightly as I try to break free from his arms. After five minutes of relentless arguing and whining, Ross wins; carrying me in his arms the entire way.
"Can I at least walk?" I mumble, as he walks down the beach, luckily we were only about ten minutes away.
"No can do, I'm pretty sure you nearly passed out in the last fifteen minutes." I can't help but smile slightly at how much my best friend cares about me. "You want to tell what happened back there?"
"I don't know...." I mutter. "One minute I was okay and then I started freaking out."
"You don't know why?" His expression turns to a frown. Usually he knows better than me why I might of had a panic attack, but today.... I've just been in a weird condition all day. I was completely fine on the plane then feeling like crap once I got off.
"Maybe it was just a delayed reaction from getting off the plane." I shrug, but he doesn't seem convinced.
"You feeling any better?"
"A bit..."
"That means no." He smirks slightly.
"What?"
"You always say a bit and scrunch up your nose when you lie about something like that." He brushes it off cooly. A blush creeps up onto my cheeks, it was weird how we could read each other like a open book. Or know things about each other even we didn't know. "You need to sleep and drink water. Maybe the humidity is getting to you. Maybe you'll start to feel better; see how you are tomorrow." He instructs, opening the gate to the villa we are staying in.
"I'm sorry, I'm ruining everything already."
"Say that again and I'll fight you. Seriously, it's not your fault and your definitely my running anything anyway. I would rather know your okay than find out your in more pain."
"Your seriously a quote book right now, Lynch." I tease him as he opens the door to the villa.
"And your a bitch, but am I complaining?" I roll my eyes and manage to escape his grip. "Go upstairs, get changed and sleep, I'll bring you up some water." He demands.
"Sir yes sir." I salute before heading up the stairs and to mine and Rydels room. I throw on a pair of light blue shorts and a grey baggy tank top.
"Are you naked?" I hear Ross knock on the door.
"No and I'm surprised you knocked! I guess there's a first time for everything." He smirks walking over to me, pushing my hair back and out of my face.
"Your pale as a ghost." He mutters, placing a hand to my forehead. "Do you have any Advil?"
"Bag in the bathroom." I tell him before sitting on the bed. He nods, handing me the glass of freezing cold water and makes his ways towards the bathroom.
"Jesus Christ, what is all this shit?" I hear him joke, the sounds of him rummaging through a bag full my ears.
"If it's pink, it's Rydel's. Mines the white one."
"You could have told me that before."
"Sorry." Smiling slightly as he walks back in with the medicine. I take them quickly before collapsing on the bed.
"Your the best best friend in the world." My comment makes him smile as he kneels down next to me.
"Pretty sure that's you. Are you going to sleep now? Or do I need to knock you out?"
"Can we just talk? You know, for a little bit.."
"I'd love to: hit me Charlotte. What do you want to talk about?"
"I don't know; anything. Just like we did when we were kids."
"Okay then? Why don't we play Pokemon?" He grins at me, ruffling my hair slightly.
"I still have more shinys that you." I fold my arms.
"Dream on! I pretty much won half of yours!"
"That is so not true!" I push his arm causing him to fall back onto his butt and hit his head on the wardrobe door.
"Owwww." Whining but laughing, he rubs the spot he hit on his head. I laugh at him, my stomach clenching as I try to control myself. "Screw you!" He yells, as he gets up and starts tickling me.
"Ross stop it!" Squealing, I roll around in the bed trying to escape him.
"Not an funny now, right?" He laughs loudly, when he finally stops he have a bit more playful arguing but just end up talking about the most random of things. Just like we always do.
