"Honey, hurry up, you don't want to be late for your first day of school" mums voice echoes up the stairs,
"coming" I shout back as I dash down, meeting my dad half way,
"Don't you think that's a little to revealing?" my dad asks, looking me up and down.
"this?" I ask looking down at my Brown button up crop top, denim shorts and Blue Nike Air Forces,
"sweetheart, it's fine" my mum reassures me, I smile at her, and she gives my dad a dirty look.
"love you" I shout as I grab my keys and rush out the door, "have fun!" my mum shouts back. I throw my bag over to the passenger seat and jump into the car, shit, being late to your first day of school can't be a good. When I pull into the student parking lot, a rush of fear washes over me. I made my way to the front office and sat in a rough wooden chair. "Hello, how may I assist you?" I look up to see an older woman, possibly in her 60s, staring down at me.
"My name is Amara Brandon, and today is my first day," I say sheepishly and stand up. "I think I spoke to your mother over the phone yesterday," she continues. "Stacy Brandon, did I get that right?" I nod awkwardly,
"It's lovely to meet you," she adds as she extends her hand, to which I hesitantly shake. "here is your class schedule. Looks like you have biology first" she says handing me a small sheet of paper. "Laura," the old lady says through the door, "would you come here for a minute?" Suddenly, a girl around my age enters, her wavy brown hair hangs just below her shoulders and her greeny-hazel eyes glitter in the light, she is rather pretty.
"Yes, Miss?" she inquires.
"Could you kindly accompany Amara to the biology room?"
"Of course," she says.
"I see you have a strange accent," Laura remarks
"may I ask where you're from?" I give her a strange look before responding,
"Brisbane."
"Ah, you're from Queensland, so that explains it," she observes.
"What's wrong with Queenslanders?" I ask. I'm curious.
"It's precisely that they have a bit of an American accent," she explains.
I keep my mouth shut. "Oh, I'm sorry if I offended you," she replies, blushing slightly.
I can't help but laugh a little, "oh no, not at all," I say.
"I didn't mean for it to come across as rude or anything" she clarifies.
"It's all right."
"you sure?"
"positive!"
"Well, here's your biology class," she continues as she opens the door for me.
"See you around," she waves goodbye then closes it behind me.
"Your late," a gruff voice behind me says, and I turn around to see a tall youngish man looming over me. I lower my head and stare down at my feet, then I apologise, "you must be the new girl" he scoffs, looking me over.
"Go sit next to Leon," he persists, pointing to a desk in the very back of the classroom where a boy sat with black hair and the most beautiful brown eyes, he had tanned skin, a little lighter than mine and he wore a cross earing on his right ear and about three rings on left index finger. he shoots me a quick smile then rests his head back on the desk. I keep my head down as I slowly approach him, a group of girls stop me
