Chapter 1: The Arrival and the Truth

"Shuichi! Wait up!" a cheerful, feminine voice called out over the sounds of the busy street as the male the voice was calling out to stop and turned to face the girl who was wearing a matching female school uniform of his own.

The girl had long blonde hair, clipped back by some silver pins revealing her pretty pink eyes which definitely made her attract attention resulting in many guys and even a few girls crushing on her. Shuichi himself probably would be in that category but having grown up with her, seeing her at her worst and best he knew he couldn't feel anything more to her then platonic love. That didn't mean he wasn't protective over her or anything since he had played the 'pretend boyfriend' role a few times in order to scare off her more pushy suitors.

"Ah! Good morning Kaede" Shuichi greeted as the girl caught up to him and bent over, resting her hands on her knees as she caught her breath from her small dash sprint she had done.

"Huff, huff... Good morning Shuichi" Kaede returned the greeting cheerfully as she straightened up and in the process fixed her uniform so she didn't look disheveled.

Reaching into her bag she pulled out her compact mirror, wordlessly Shuichi took it from her and opened it up before holding it in front of her so she could check her hair and makeup were still okay as they continued to walk to school.

When Kaede was satisfied she gave Shuichi a grateful smile as she took the compact from him and put it back in her bag. The two made small talk as they caught up about what they did on the weekend, barely noticing they had entered the school gates until they stopped by Kaede's locker so she could drop her stuff off.

"So hey you're sitting with me at the assembly right?" Kaede asked as she hung her bag up on the small hook inside the locker and grabbed her books and pencil case for her first class.

"Of course, who else would I sit with? Weird Kork?" Shuichi responded jokingly

Kaede giggled as she lightly punched his shoulder before closing her locker

"I don't see why everyone calls him weird, he's just different y'know" Kaede commented as they moved down the wall of lockers for Shuichi's locker next, which was in the next block of lockers so it only took them a minute to get there.

"It's because he's always hanging out in the old town library reading and never talks to anyone really unless needed" Shuichi responded as he put his bag into his locker and also grabbed his stuff for his class before closing it.

RIIIIIIING

"Well I should get to class. I'll meet you outside the gym so we can sit together, kay!" Kaede stated before waving to Shuichi and heading down the hallway as Shuichi returned the wave before going in the opposite direction of her to his own class.

When Shuichi reached the gym, he spotted Kaede's blonde hair over the mass of students making their way into the gym and at the same time spotted him as she grabbed his sleeve and dragged him through the swarm of students and into the gym.

She drags him over to two empty seats at the end of a row roughly in the middle of the gym which would be good for them to chat quietly since the teachers focused more on the kids who sat in the back and all the goodie two-shoes sat in the front. They chat to each other as the gym slowly fills up with the student body and only fall silent when everyone is seated and the principal starts the assembly with the announcements.

For the next 10 minutes the principal drones on before passing the mic to the student council president who talks about the upcoming exams and of course their schools famed cherry blossom festival.
