Perry
I looked around for any way into the room. The door was blocked by shelves and the window only had a gap. I slid off the coat I had borrowed and threw it on the floor. I might be small enough to fit.
I tried to block out the sounds of those things and Quinn's grunts. My heart was racing.
Placing my hands on the cool metal of the gate, I pushed it up as far as it would. I'd have to make it work. I hopped up onto the counter and slid under the gate. The pulled pieces of metal cut into my back but I ignored it.My breath caught in my throat as I began to sweat. Quinn was stuck behind a shelf and two of those things were trying their hardest to get to him.
I was terrified. I wasn't ready for this. Why did I volunteer?
"Fuck," I breathed and grabbed onto the metal gate. I began shaking it and banging on it,"Over here you ugly fucks." I called and shook it harder.
They stopped trying to get at Quinn and directed their focus at me. I hopped onto the counter once more and went out the way I got in. I kept shaking the gate and calling for them. Soon, the biters were in my face, only a thing layer of metal keeping them from ripping it off.
I watched as Quinn snuck out from behind the shelf and pulled out a knife. It was a weird shape. He slowly walked behind them and I shut my eyes. The sounds stopped and their bodies dropped.
"Thanks," Quinn whispered, out of breath. I nodded and slowly opened my eyes. The creatures were no where to be seen. I nodded and turned, grabbing my coat and walking towards my stuff. I wanted to go home.
Life wasn't supposed to be like this.
"Perry, Watch out!" Quinn called from the room and I turned to look at him. He was staring at something else. I slowly turned my head and my heart began racing once again.
I was face to face with one of the biters once again. This time, without the metal gate to separate us.
It released one of those ear piercing screams and I covered my ears. I had never been next to one when it had screamed. I felt like my head was going to explode.
Without a seconds hesitation it pounced at me, shoving me into one of the shelves.
The shelf fell back with both of us on top. I used my hands and feet to keep it away but it didn't seem to work. He was too strong. It was too strong."C'mon you got it, princess." Quinn was now standing a few feet from us. He had a smug smile and his arms were crossed against his chest.
"Fucking," I grunted, "Help me." I said. I felt my arms shaking underneath its weight. I could hear the chomping of its' teeth as it tried to go for me.
"You've got it." Quinn said and rage filled my body. I reached for a piece of the broken shelf and gripped it tightly. I felt it cutting into my skin but I gripped hard.
With every bit of strength I had, I pushed away the thing and waisted no time shoving the piece of metal into its skull. Breathing heavy, I looked down and reality clicked. I had just killed something.
I just murdered someone.
"I told you. You had it." I looked at Quinn and felt all that rage come back.
"Who the fuck do you think you are? I help you and this is how you repay me?" I asked and stood, my legs and hands were still shaking.
"I didn't ask for your help." Quinn stated blankly.
"But I asked for yours and you stood there twiddling your god damn thumbs." I spat at him.
I shook my head and stepped over the body to my bag. I quickly grabbed it and winced. The cut in my hand was deep and it hurt like hell. I'd have to see if they had a doctor or nurse at the compound. I switched hands and walked out of the store.
