(Was that all a dream...?) Isaac thought through the constant ringing in his ears, still squeezing his eyes shut. (Ok, I'm gonna open my eyes and be in my bed and everything will be normal. 3... 2... 1!)
He opened his eyes. He wasn't in bed. The last thing he remembered was falling into complete darkness from a trapdoor in his room, so surely there had to be at least the hole where he fell from. But no, he was lying on his back staring at... his basement ceiling?
Isaac quickly leaned up and looked around. (No, this isn't just the basement...!) There were hallways that led to more rooms, and more hallways... and more rooms...
(Where am I?!) His mind began to panic. (Where's Maggy?! What if I never get out of here?! Is there something in that room looking at me?! Did I die?!) He inhaled a sharp breath, and his eyes began to tear up as he looked to the floor. "This is all just another bad dream. Wake up! W-Wake up! Wa-"
"Isaac...?"
He looked up.
"Maggy...!"
Isaac jumped to his feet and hugged her.
"I'm so glad mom didn't hurt you!" Maggy said as she hugged him back.
"And I'm so glad she didn't hurt you and- AAAAAAAHHH! A GHOST!" Isaac ran backwards into one of the room's corners goggling at the uncanny glowing blue figure that hovered next to his sister.
"NONONONONO! ISAAC CHILL! It's ok!" Maggy flailed her arms around trying to get Isaac's attention again. "This is the Lost! He's our guardian angel!"
Isaac blinked as his body untensed again, baffled by what he just heard. "Our... guardian angel...?"
The Lost smiled at him. "Yes, it is true. Be not afraid, young Isaac."
"See! He even has a cross necklace like mine!" Maggy pointed to the Lost's necklace that seemed to be what was emitting the blue aura around him.
Isaac hesitantly walked back over to them still in awe that this was really happening and asked, "If you're an angel then... d-do you know what's wrong with me and why God wanted my mom to kill me...?"
The Lost looked down and let out a sigh, "Isaac, I'm sorry but that wasn't god your mother spoke to... it was none other than the Devil himself."
"W-What...? Why would he target us? We're just some random kids!" Isaac gasped.
The Lost shook his head. "It's not just you and Maggy, the same thing has been happening to tons of other kids. The Devil manipulates their parents, tells them to lock their kids in their rooms, tells them to kill them, but then the kid will find a trap door and jump down it, taking them here. It's unknown what the Devil wants all these kids down here in this bizarre maze for, but it's of course nothing good. That's why God sent me down here. To protect the fallen children like you two."
Isaac thought for a moment. So many more questions kept rushing in and out of his mind, but he didn't want to bother the Lost with all of them. But then Isaac remembered a question he needed to know the answer to right away. "Wait, is our mom ok?!"
"Oh yes of course she is, no need to worry." The Lost reassured him. "Unfortunately, she's still being manipulated by the Devil along with all the other kids' parents. But we'll figure out a way to save her!" He held his left hand out to Isaac as Maggy grabbed his right.
"Come now, Isaac. We'll find a way out of here, even if this place is said to be endless, we can't lose hope."
Isaac was hesitant again, his hand trembled slightly as he reached up to grab the Lost's, but as he did, he felt all his fear and worries melt into the background till they were nothing but a faint buzzing sound. For the first time in a while, he felt safe, and he smiled.
The Lost began to float towards one of the hallways as he said, "Though we should hurry. It's been quite some time and I don't want anything happening to the other kids while I'm away."
