She awoke and she immediately knew that something wasn't right.

Her eyes felt heavy; the effect of the sleeping pills still lingered perhaps. Leah hadn't been able to sleep last night, not after the fight. All the screaming and clattering of things around her had made it impossible to sleep, especially with the headache she could not get rid of. No matter how many painkillers she took, the headache remained as a constant throbbing between anger and delirium.

Things had gotten out of control so fast that she couldn't really remember the exact moment everything began to fall apart. Perhaps it was during dinner when she mentioned the guy's name. Maybe it was last week when she saw them walking down the street a little too close for a mere chat between friends. It could have happened last month during the Christmas party when she drank too much after finding out that they were each other's secret Santa.

No, it could have not been that Christmas party because they had come home and made sweet love next to the fire place. Everything had felt so magical, almost as if Santa had finally given her what she wanted for Christmas. The way she had caressed Leah's hair, entwining her fingers through her golden locks and whispered sweet things into her ear. No, it couldn't have been that night when they embraced each other so lovingly; forgetting everything that had happened before and just focusing on the moment.

So when did it all fall apart; she asked herself as she stood from the bed and looked around the room.

Leah had been right when she woke up, something wasn't right. The room looked the same but completely strange at the same time. The bed was a tangle of sheets just like it had been when Leah had finally gone to bed. The small couch in the room was upside down after the argument and no one had bothered to clean up the mess on the floor. It looked just how it had been left the night before but something was wrong about the place.

Something was missing.

She looked in the closet and felt a painful pang in her chest, everything looked the same as always but her instinct told her it wasn't like that.

Leah rushed out of the room and to the living room; her breathing was labored as she looked around at the mess. She held her head in between her hands, feeling the throbbing of the headache come back only this time she had a feeling it would not go away with pills of any kind. She looked around the living room and felt her heart thump painfully against her chest. Picture frames cluttered the floor, glass was shattered almost everywhere; she had to be careful where she stepped as she walked to the front door.

She threw the door open, almost losing her balance, and felt the cold air hit her face like a slap. Leah ran down the driveway as she tried to keep control over herself; the car was missing. No, she thought to herself as she ran back inside the house and slammed the door. Her head was throbbing as she looked around the house, trying to remember what had happened the night before. She remembered bits and pieces but nothing concrete; nothing that would tell her why the car was missing from her drive way.

All the screaming and blaming had gotten out of control. The moment the blaming had started to be thrown around, Leah had known things wouldn't end nicely. They had gotten in an argument about that guy again. She had said nothing happened between them and that nothing ever would, but Leah hadn't believed her. Leah had tried to tune out her excuses but it wasn't happening. That's when everything got out of control, the moment Leah grabbed the picture frame of them two on their trip to Hawaii last year and threw it at her girlfriend's head.

Yes, that's when everything fell apart.

No, that was just the results of everything she had dealt with in the past few months.

She's a filthy cheater; Leah thought as she grabbed the picture frame with shaky fingers. Everything that had been said the night before had cut her deep but it had been the truth. The truth always hurts, she thought as she caressed the picture frame and moisture collected in her eyes. Leah had only wanted to clear things up before they took that huge step and walked down the aisle together. She couldn't go on with the wedding like nothing happened when she knew her girlfriend wasn't being honest.
