About ten minutes later, we arrive at Jack's house (which I DEFINITELY had NO IDEA where it was), and I see an epic tree in the backyard. I practically squeal with joy when I see the treehouse that resides in the tree, and Jack opens the back gate for us. I dash into the backyard before you can say "zombie" and I climb up the rope ladder like my life depends on it, one-handedly, I might add. I step onto the deck of the treehouse and bolt inside, and I give myself a quick tour. Jack's bedroom? Found it! The attic where the rest of us are probably going to sleep? Obviously! The bathroom? Just a bucket, sadly, but you get my point! Jack is the next up the rope ladder, then June, next is Quint, and finally, Dirk lumbers into the main room. Jack gives us the tour that I already self-gave, but he describes it like our lives depend on it, because he's dramatic and geeky like that. When he finishes, he tells us where we're going to sleep, which is, you guessed it, the attic. I climb up the other ladder to the attic, where I see almost endless floor space and a crow's nest, which I immediately dart up to and look excitedly out the window at the apocalyptic home that I now live in. Dirk and June take two of the other corners of the attic to live in, and the last corner is completely empty. I put my backpack and shoes aside in the crow's nest and start to make it feel like home by taking everything uncomfortable out of the backpack and cushioning it with a spare hoodie that I brought for school in case I got sweaty. Then, once I have my backpack and hoodie set up like a pillow and a blanket, I climb back down to the first level of the treehouse and explore a little bit more. Eventually, I have the treehouse completely memorized, and I realize that it's already sunset. I climb back up to the crow's nest and look out the window at the sunset, and I realize that I can see Jack's bedroom from here. I watch Jack yawn and stretch, then lay down in the middle of a giant pile of clothes. I watch him peacefully close his eyes, and his chest rises and falls. I smile gently, then lay down in the crow's nest and drift slowly to sleep.
