While Warrick's friends suffered from booming headaches, Warrick had work. He worked Saturdays and Sundays. He didn't need the extra money, but he had nothing better to do. Despite having hordes of friends he didn't necessarily enjoy their company. He felt out of place, like a stranger to them. They didn't share interests, hobbies or anything of sorts. They just hung out for no apparent reason. Well, actually they thought Warrick was a cool person. Brick Bay was a relatively small fishing town, so basically everyone knew everyone and he was the most intriguing person to share a chat with according to locals. Everyone had cranberry juice with him sooner or later. Needless to say that gossip was the main source of entertainment, so of course they would spend time and hang out with the person everyone knew, but Warrick had none of it. He was avoiding drama as much as possible without giving the impression of an outcast. He was really proficient at being the person everyone wanted him to be. A regular member of society you could say.
- Good morning, War. First to arrive as always aren't you?
- I am just on time for opening.
- That is true, but who goes to a bar first thing in the morning?
- Several people I know.
- Fair enough. I heard you were out yesterday. How was it?
- (Ugh.) It was fine. Nothing special. It was fun, I guess.
- What did you get?
- Juice.
- Just juice?
- Just juice.
- Alright. Well then. I am going to sort some papers and do inventory. I kinda forgot to do it last night. See you later.
- Yeah, see you, Eliza.
Eliza is Warrick's co-worker and more or less best friend. They met a couple years ago while working weekends, but Eliza, opposed to Warrick, works for money. She has big plans, dreams, anything that has to do with leaving the bay, so she needs the money. She is very proficient at whatever she gets her mind into, some even envy her knack of picking up fast on new things and shortly mastering said skills. You could say that she is a jack of all trades, master of all, a truly perfect person to the naked eye and well, she grew quite fond of Warrick despite him being opposed to serious relationships. He says that: "he is unable to get attached and would rather not get into things than be a disappointment" or something along those lines, but she didn't think much of it. Warrick is the first thing in her life that proved to be a challenge to conquer and she is not one to give up so easily.
A bell clings...
- Hello, good morning!
- Morning Stan.
- Yo, Rick. How's things?
- Work. It's fine really. You're the first one to come today, so I've had it easy.
- Smokes, I get to be your first customer today! What an honor!
- Yeah, so what are you having?
I'll have a... uhh... just an old fashioned will do.
- Top or bottom?
- Only bottom for today. I allowed myself too much yesterday.
- On the rocks?
- Yes, please!
- Coming right up.
Warrick took an expensive bottle of liquor from under that table labeled "Four Roses".
- Hey, isn't that a bit expensive for a bottom drink?
- It's on me.
- Woah, why?
