The cafeteria. The playing ground for rich bitches and date rapist football stars. I make my way through the crowd, looking around for somewhere to sit.I'm mentally cursing my father a thousand times for making me go through this.
As I pass by a table, I spot the curly haired girl from my speech class. She's sitting by herself, looking on her phone and eating the school lunch.
Coming up to her, she looks up at me timidly and I smile down at her as I sit to her left.
"Hey. Can I sit here?" I ask, and she nods with a small smile.
Putting my messenger bag onto the table, I pull out the pbj sandwich and water that my dad packed for me.
"I'm Kat. We have speech class together right?" I take a bite of my sandwich and look over at her as she nods again.
"Yeah, right. I'm Emily. I was the new girl before you." She tells me softly, her accent sticking out as she talks.
"Cool. Where did you move here from?"
"Scotland, my parents got a job relocation." I hum in agreement, my mouth full of sandwich.
"That happened to my dad too, it really blows. How long have you been here?"
"You're right, it does blow. And I've only been a couple months, but all the people here still treat me like the new girl." He tells me a bit sadly and I give her a sympathetic smile.
"Fuck em. Us outsiders got to stick together right?" I nudge her shoulder with mine as she laughs softly and nods in agreement.
We continue to talk a bit and get to know each other more and I find out that she has some anger issues. I just told her that she was a badass.
Eventually we finish our food and I start to show her some of my music on her headphones.
"Hey, I think those guys are looking at you." She tells me softly and nudges to the table two rows down.
I look up and lock eyes with the long haired metal head from speech. When I spot him, he looks away and starts whispering something to his friend with the glasses.
"The guy with the glasses was definitely checking you out." I tell Emily and she flusters, looking down at her hands.
"No he wasn't! Are you serious?" She practically blushes and I smile down at her.
"I'm deadly serious. I know his friend, I could introduce you if you want?"
"Maybe some other time. I think he's in marching band with me." She whispers at me, telling me all about her incident with the clarinet.
I try to listen, but I can feel eyes on me again. I look back over and Hunter is looking at me again. This time he doesn't look away and I give him a small smile in acknowledgment.
He smiles back at me until his friend starts talking to him again and he flusters slightly, Turing to him and punching him in the arm.
I shake my head, biting my lip to prevent from laughing and turning back to Emily to listen to the rest of her story.

The school day finally ends and it feels like I've been here for an eternity when it's actually only been like 8 hours.
I make my way outside and look around for my dad's car but he's nowhere to be seen.
I hear a "shit!" Behind me and look over to see Hunter nearly knocking a girl over as he runs towards me.
"Fuck, sorry. Hey!" He finally makes it, standing next to me looking out of breath.
"You alright there?" I ask amusedly, and he nods running his fingers through his hair.
"Yeah. I was looking all over for you. I forgot to ask for your number earlier so I could text you about when the band practices."
I fluster a bit, muttering out an 'oh yeah, sure.' As I pull my phone out of my pocket.
I internally scream inside just a little as he enters his phone number at the thought of him running around the school trying to find me.
"Here. I'll text you later." He smiles down at me and I nod, trying to hold back a blush as I look up at his grey eyes.
Suddenly the sound of Don't Fear the Reaper by Blue Öyster Cult blasts through the school parking lot and a familiar beat up white van speeds to a stop right in front of us.
I practically scream like a fan girl at the sight of it, running toward the passenger window as it rolls down.
"Thank fucking god, it's a Christmas miracle!! You're here! I can't believe it!" I squeal as Ivy's grinning face comes into view.
"We couldn't just leave you to survive your first day of school all alone! How was it my love?" Ivy interlocks her hands with mine and I sigh in contempt.
"It was horrible. There were people who listened to Ed Sheeran in there!" I pout like a child, and Ivy gives me a look of sympathy.
"Oh you poor child..." she coos, and Dylan's face pops up behind her.
"Who's the headbanger staring at us?" He wiggles his eyebrows at me and I look behind me to find Kevin talking to Hunter, who's more focussed on watching me than listening to his friend.
"Oh, that's Hunter. He's like one of the only decent people in this school." I tell Dylan, waving at Hunter and he gives me the nod as he starts walking toward a black Dodge Charger.
"He's got a sick car, too." Dylan looks impressed, eyeing up the boy as he gets in his car.
"He's totally your type." Ivy points out with a cheeky smile and I roll my eyes playfully, opening the passenger car door.
"Shut up and move over bitch." I tell her as I hop into the van.
"Oohh look at her. Kitty Kat has a crush!" Dylan teases, raising his voice to sound like a girl.
I punch him in the arm and he yelps out in pain. The wimp.
"Hey! Ivy, tell her to stop punching me!" Dylan complains and I snicker at the boy.
"I'm sure you deserved it." Ivy responds, putting on some lipgloss in the overhead mirror.
I crank up the volume on the music with a grin on my face as Dylan speeds out of the parking lot like a bat out of hell.
