"Thank you, J-Jungwon"
"Why are you stuttering?"
Three things: him being here with me, the thought of how my parents react of me not being able to buy their drink, and me worrying about how close Jungwon is at my house and how any minute now my dad can turn aggressive out of nowhere.
"Nothing." I simply reply.
"You sure?"
"Very sure."
"If you say so, I'm going to get going now. Have a nice night Av."
"You too, stay safe please."
"I will"
And then he walked away. My thoughts at that moment are how am I going to face my parents knowing I didn't buy their "needs". It's sad that I pray they are sleeping and I don't have to face them. Back then, I get excited about seeing them every day. But, it's different now. What was used to be is now the opposite.
Creak
My heart pounded at the sound of the door, I tiptoed myself through the hallway when...
Clink
Three glass bottles clinked made me jump and worry. I quickly opened my door and closed it very very slowly. I guess I'm going to miss dinner tonight.
Cling
Cling
Cling
I reach for my alarm clock and quickly turned it off. I reach for my eyes to cover them since the sun hits them directly. I get ready for school and cover bruises that can be seen even with long sleeves with concealer. The good thing about our uniforms is that it's long-sleeved. But, of course, I need to skip school by the time that happened, my back aches every move. I won't survive the day.
I put on the perfume Jungwon gave me last Christmas.
Now, we hope we can get through the living room without any more bruises.
And...
"Good morning" My dad.
He's sober, but still, I'm careful.
"Morning, I'm going to get going."
"Breakfast?" My mom added.
"Oh no, it's fine really."
"Avalon Christine."
And with that I finally faced them.
"Ah yeah?"
"Eat." She replied.
"Ah okay.
I finally went to eat, when...
"How're your grades?" Dad asked while reading a newspaper.
"It's good"
"That's good, you don't wanna end up borrowing money all the time." He said that with a chuckle.
"I heard Jungwon's parents are going on a business trip." My mom added.
"Really? I never knew that." I replied.
"They said they need to have someone to babysit Jungwon."
"Jungwon? A babysitter? I don't think he still needs that."
"Babysit him."
"Me?"
"Who else would it be? They will pay us money. Take the chances, you know?"
"But-"
"No buts, we already said you're going to do it, you don't want to embarrass me, Avalon."
I nodded, and finally said my goodbye to them.
