After All I Did

How far could your feet carry you? You weren't sure, but you hoped it was far enough to getaway. You needed to get as far as possible, though, with the burning feeling in your feet, you weren't sure how much further you could possibly get. The sky was dark and the streets relatively empty. The people you did see were useless. None of them could help you. Either ignoring you or not understanding you. How far had he taken you that the locals spoke a different language?

You realized it would be best to just hide. Maybe if you hid long enough, he would pass by and you could think of a way to get away. Any time you could buy you would take. Looking around you searched for a place to hide. Anywhere that would do a reasonable job at hiding you. Luckily there were some abandoned buildings in the area. But which one would actually hide you? Which one would he not look in? Your search was cut short when you heard your name being called. Looking behind you there was nothing there. Meaning he was close, just not on the road. Chances are he knew you were in this direction, but couldn't see you. Choosing the closes building you saw, you ran towards it. Hoping there would be somewhere to hide. Somewhere he wouldn't look.

The building was deserted, it wasn't large, but it had enough junk and rooms to hide in. Running through the halls, you tried to find the right place. Far enough from the entrance that he wouldn't look there, but not too far that you couldn't run when he wandered past. Eventually, you found a room far enough back. It was dark, filled with shelves and boxes. Enough places you could hide in. You were rushed when you swore you heard footsteps nearby. Forcing you to pick the closes place to hide.

"My love? I know you're in here."

You were right, he was here. You had no time to continue your search for a better place to hide. You choose a place by the door, hoping he would walk in and you'd be able to leave when he was further in without him noticing. Using the planks of wood outside the room to hold the door close and lock him in. It wasn't the best plan, but it was all you could think of at the moment. Darting behind a shelf near the door. You crouched down and waited. It was only a matter of time before he found you. He always did. Soon you heard his steps heading toward you. Stopping every so often, opening doors and looking inside.

"Not in here." Slam of a door. "Not in here either."

He was getting relatively close. Step by step he was getting to you. You couldn't help, but sweat. He was going to find you, wasn't he? It was a mistake to run. Every other time he found you before you even left the view of the house. It was too good to be true that you made it this far. You should have known better. Should have stayed at home with him.

There was a knock at the door to your room.

"I know you're in there sweetie. Come out."

It wasn't too long before the door opened. He was in the room. You could see a bit of him through the boxes on the shelf. He was less than an arm's reach away. Panic began to bubble up, picturing him reaching behind the shelf and dragging you out. Yet, he walked past your shelf. Walking further into the room, lifting things and peering behind boxes and other shelves. This was your chance, his back was turned and he was so far into the room. If you were fast and quiet, perhaps you could get out.

Making your way to the door, trying to not disturb anything in your way. Keeping your eyes on him. Knowing you need to get out undetected then close the door and trap him inside. You were so close, a few feet from the door when you saw him turn towards you slightly.

"There you are, dear. Ready to go home?"

You stood there shocked. How did he know? You had been so quiet, so careful.

" If you come now I promise I won't be too rough."

That was a lie. Turning you darted to the door. Slamming it shut behind you. Pushing a bunch of loose materials to block his way out. Jamming a piece of metal in the way of the door opening. Then turning around and running. Shit, where could you even go? He found you once, he'll find you again. This was hopeless. How could you even escape Chrollo, he wasn't one to let things slip from his grasp. You should have accepted his lie of a deal. Just went to him instead of running again.
