Standing in the tall window, the night looks over at the kingdom he protects.
"What a job I have." He thinks to himself.
A little woman's hand is felt on his shoulder. The hand of his beloved mother. His mother takes care of the queen as a maid/caretaker. His father died years before, a noble night just like him. His family worked for royalty for decades, it's in his blood.
"You have to help the Princess find her way back.. she is lost in that forest and if someone else finds her before you do she will be eaten by wolves or sold to evil people who-.." his worried mother sighs. "You understand?"
The night looks at his scared mother and with kind eyes and a soft hand, he touches her hand gently.
"Mother, I'll get her back here promptly before night fall. No need to worry. Tell the queen I'll have her here in no time. Alive."
His mothers eyes burn into his, but he isn't worried. He knows he'll find her.As the horse gallops beneath him, he waves to everyone seeing him off as he rides into the morning mist. Eventually he enters a forest. He halts the obedient horse and hops off to investigate little shoe prints along the dewy grass.
"Hmm.. too small to be adult feet, but too big to be animal.. what little child is prancing about this forest?"
The inquisitive steed thought.
All of a sudden a little voice is heard from behind a tree stump.
"Not a child foot! An elf foot! Down here!"
The night looks around then down at the tree stump to find a little elf smiling up at him.
"Would you look at that! An elf!" He says and kneels down to see better.
"What's a prince doing in Faræ Forest?" The elf exclaims.
The night chuckles to himself and says,
"Well, little elf, I'm not a prince. I'm but a noble knight looking for Princess Dalilah of Havensford."
The elf begins to think. After a couple seconds he exclaims "ah!"
"I saw a yellow haired girl in a blue dress walk through here not too long ago!"
The knight smiled and said,
"That would be the Princess! When about did you see her?"
The elf replies,
"It was just before daybreak! She went towards the hedges. I can show you the way for a ride on your pony!"
The knight chuckled again and said,
"It's a horse.. But, deal!"They ride towards the hedges for a good 45 minutes before they finally arrive. Sure enough, Princess is laying on the ground, screaming for help.
"Knight! You have come to rescue me from this bear trap! I knew you'd come!"
The knight and elf quickly dismount from the horse and help Princess Dalilah.
Whenever she's free she plants a sloppy kiss upon the lips of the brave knight.
"You saved me! I must make you prince!"
The knight just smiled and bowed to the princess.
"I will protect you for all of my days, Princess Dalilah."The new prince, Princess Dalilah, and the little left road into Havensford just before nightfall and the whole town was there to greet them. Cheers were heard all around them.
