It was quiet.
Milk Cookie sighed, tapping his hand nervously. No doubt this experience would be traumatizing for her; how would she react when she woke up?
"Oi, Doc?" Adventurer poked his head inside the tent. "Oh. Hey, Milk. The Doc out?"
"It's uh.." Milk frowned for a moment. "It had to go do something."
"Alright. She awake..?"
"No."
"It's been a day...gods, what are we gonna tell her?"
"The truth. She can handle it." Milk nodded curtly. "She was part of the war too, y'know."The tent itself was big enough to hold a bed or two, and a couple cookies. Across the tent, Queen lay on the bed.
"I'm just..worried." Adventurer looked down, kicking his feet at the ground. "Do you think Twizzly Gummy got arrested again, that's why she's gone?"
Milk gave a short nod, turning his head towards Queen, who was passed out. She was wrapped in bandages, half of her body practically scorched. No, not practically, was completely burned, reaching from her face to her thighs.
Milk, however aromantic asexual he may be, did not want to talk about how he knew that.
Quite suddenly, and what should have been impossible as she shouldn't have been able to get up so quickly with a single arm, Queen jolted awake, crying out. She leaned forwards, only to gasp sharply in pain and throw herself back onto the bed.
"Queen.." Milk sighed. He found his way over to the royal, resting a hand on her shoulder; which felt odd, as that was really all that was there.
Milk glanced over her, concern clouding their eyes. Their eyes trailed over her charred face and neck. The blistered stump of what had been her arm was currently neatly wrapped in gauze.
"How are you feeling?" Milk smiled, an awkward, sort of nervous smile that they flashed whenever they didn't quite understand what was happening.
"..where's Teeks?"
"Who?"
"Timekeeper."
The silence was thick, almost nauseating. Milk didn't response.
Queen frowned. "Where's Timekeeper?"
"Queen.." Milk closed their eyes, letting out another sigh. "Listen."
"What?" Queen snapped. Milk flinched at her tone, brushing it off immediately after.
"Queen..this is going to be hard to explain.." Milk's tone softened. "But you know that, uh.. that rift? That opened?"
Queen laughed. "Uh, yeah? It did fucking this." She jerked her head towards her shoulder. She seemed a little hysterical.
"Listen, uh..you're probably in shock" Queens laugh was shrill. He once again brushed it off. "And I need you to calm down for a moment, so I can explain some things.""You're lying." Queen laughed. Milk did not respond for a second, or maybe third time.
"Queen. I need you to listen." Milk held his hands together. "I know this is difficult to accept."
"It's not funny, Milk." She said, despite the laughter in her voice.
Milk sighed. Queen frowned, rolling her eyes as the doctor stood up and made his way outside.
"I tried to tell you.." Adventurer rubbed the back of his neck. "She isn't ready, Milk. Her wife just died in front of her, or at least completely vanished. It's going to take time."
"She seems so..calm about it." Milk muttered, partially to themself.
"It's the shock, I think. Effects people differently. But you'd know that." Adventurer made a face.
"Yes. But it's eery..she doesn't even seem to mind her arm is gone. Just..annoyed." Milk said quietly. "Should we tell her how long she's been out?"
"Tell her she's been out for three days? Nah, doc. Probably just let her process everything else first."
"..yes, fair."Queen stared at ceiling- if you could even call it that. She was in a large medical tent, so it wasn't really a ceiling.
She felt numb. Like she'd been stripped of everything that was important to her, everything that made her, her.
Her memories were also very hazy; as if she'd just woken from dragons-old sleep.
It wasn't silent, but she knew that if it was it would feel worse. But she didn't feel anything, except for frustration and anger at the world. Whatever had happened had been blocked from her memory, as if to protect her from ever knowing.
She hoped she'd remember soon.
There was really nothing for her to do. It hurt like hell to move.
Even if it doesn't, how the fuck was she supposed to do anything with one arm?
Her face still stung as well. She felt like she'd melted. She supposed it made sense; from what she could tell of the areas of pain, it was abou half her body that gotten the full blast.
It was shock she hadn't died.
She heard talking outside. Queen strained to hear, even if it may not be important.
