Day #3

April 26th - Prompt:

Library

"Checkmate."

University AU

———————————————————

Sunlight shone through the giant windows of the building. The large yet cozy library was almost completely empty without only the librarian and two students in the building.

"Do you even need to study?" A blonde spoke to the redhead who pulled out a textbook for whatever subject he had in mind and didn't answer his friend.

"Why do you say that?" The redhead, better known as Cale Henituse, said as he found a comfortable seat to study in with the blonde or rather Alberu Crossman. "Ha..." Alberu sighed and took another copy of the same textbook Cale got.

Cale Henituse was extremely smart and yet he didn't seem to realize this factor. Alberu was almost sure that Cale didn't need any special help when it came to any subject. In conclusion, Cale was a fucking dense genius.

"I'd rather be prepared for anything." Cale simply said, continuing to read at fast speeds, flipping the pages efficiently. With Cale's photographic memory, he could easily just scan words and actually focus on them when needed. To be honest, Alberu thought it was quite the cheat.

Alberu opened his book, reading it at his own pace as a comfortable silence set in, the sound of flipping pages filled the quiet room.

Around fifteen minutes later, Alberu was still writing notes from the same textbook while Cale was only reading, though on his third book.

Alberu stopped writing, cracking his fingers and stretching after taking well over ten pages of notes. Cale didn't even look in Alberu's direction as Alberu got out of his seat and walked around a bit, obviously tired from his past college classes, especially when after that he was pulled along to study with that dense idiot reading nonchalantly.

When walking around, he was a bit surprised to see a few board games. Alberu picked up one of the boxes containing a board game, that game being chess.

Alberu, who wanted Cale to take a break from his unneeded studies, brought the box back, setting it in the middle of the two as Cale didn't even flinch and kept reading silently.

"Cale," Alberu said to get the young man's attention. A small hum was all he got in return though, the redhead continuing to flip pages and read silently with his chin resting on his palm.

Alberu closed the book Cale was reading which made the latter click his tongue, looking up at the blonde who had a bright smile on his face. Cale stopped himself from glaring at the saccharine smile.

"My dear dongsaeng, you overwork yourself so much. It makes your hyung so worried~" Alberu said in a sickly sarcastic tone which made the already annoyed Cale glare at Alberu as if asking what he needed.

Alberu glanced at the setup chessboard, Cale following suit. Cale raised an eyebrow at the blonde as if asking, 'So you're bored?' which Alberu ignored.

"Relax with your Hyung-nim~ A break is good for you," Alberu said, taking the book in front of Cale before the latter could say anything. Cale clicked his tongue again and just nodded his head, looking at the chessboard with a stoic expression.

"Hm~ We could spice things up I suppose. How about a bet?" Alberu said, this time making the redhead look in his direction again, interest and a bit of greed staining his reddish-brown eyes.

"The loser has to do one thing the winner commands. Whether that be something stupid or gaining something." Alberu deliberately said the last part, which worked in his favor as Cale seemed more excited.
